Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018) Written by Danny McBride of all people

I was hoping they'd do a 'Halloween' TV Series to be honest.

Highlighting his upbringing and then that fateful night on Halloween in 6 or so episodes.
But Rob Zombie did it soooooooo well already

:bosque

I'm not even sure any sort of back story is needed tbh outside of the glimpse we got in the original Halloween. Guess it just depends on which route they go with the story.

Meh.

I just think there's so much more you can do over 6 episodes than just under 2 hours of film.

I always HATED the fact that they made Laurie his sister by the way from the second film on-wards.

Yeah, even Carpenter admits he regrettted doing the sequel and giving it that story tbh.

I loved Halloween IV and V.

Fight me.

As long as you don't like Vi.

Or Resurrection. A sword wielding Busta Rhymes should be nowhere near any horror franchise.

Holy shit I didn't expect them to go this route at bringing back JLC. So where does this fit in the Canon with H20, after or before? I guess we'll find what happened maybe it's before H20, maybe the reason why Laurie and her Son fled away and started a new life.

I thought she was done with the franchise tbh. I wonder what they're going for in terms of story here. Unless it's set long after II (I did think they'd essentially be making a Halloween III)

Very surprised.

I'm sure this was supposed to be set after the second movie, but I don't know where exactly now with this news. The JLC reveal has threw me for sure.

Surprised by the Jamie Lee Curtis appearance. What if she's a time traveler come back to prevent Michael's birth, but Michael is a timeless evil who appears to thwart her. Terminator meets Halloween? :nah Seriously, maybe everything post Halloween II has been retconned away.

Laurie Strode comes back as a zombie?

If it's pre-H20 like after Halloween II to make up for Halloween III, are they going to make look her younger?

Halloween (October 19th, 2018) Written by Danny McBride of all people

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN, released by Universal Pictures October 19, 2018.

I'll definitely give this a watch when it releases. Don't see it matching the original, but I'm definitely on board if JLC is :yay I'm probably in the minority that enjoyed Rob Zombie's Halloween. Not the second one, but the first remake he did had some good qualities to it. Wasn't anything mind blowing, but it wasn't bad for a remake imo. I expect this to be better.

I have high hopes for with the main lead returning. I hope it follows the same tone as the original.

With JLC being in it, the story will be set more in present times then? So as she's what, 58, Myers would be around 65 in this?

He's under a mask and walks slow anyway lol, but just weird when you think about it. Not sure how else they can go about it tbh.

I did think this would essentially be Halloween III, but now it looks like it's sometime after Resurrection perhaps.

But JLC died in Resurrection :hutz

The story will be very interesting to see just what they go with. Still looking forward to seeing it as it's Halloween still.

Laurie switched clothes with another patient and from Michael's perspective he thought he killed his sister. Don't worry, the flashbacks will explain it in the opening sequence of the movie.:wink2: :bs:

While they are bringing characters back might as well bring in Josh Harnett and Michelle Williams to reprise their roles too, right? j/k

I'm excited Jamie Lee Curtis is returning. I just ask the creators of this film to present to us a haunting atmosphere whether it's daylight or night. Build immense tension. Deliberately time Carpenter's classic themes. The typical slasher beats should take care of itself. The original Halloween innovated most of them.

Oh, and for goodness sakes do NOT make the story more convoluted than it has to be! Halloween should be a bare bones slasher that opens the door for the audience to project onto the suspense we are experiencing. I understand minimalist storytelling done effectively takes a lot of talent to execute, but it's not an impossible feat.

Off topic, I dislike how modern studio horror films have too much lighting. Back in the 70s & 80s when less money was put into producing horror films the movies looked more dreary which better enhanced the macabre presentation.

Back on topic, Laurie is always a target for Michael and that's perfect. With Laurie being much older now (they can make up whatever fake age/time setting), and probably a little whacked out of her mind due to her traumatic experiences, she can also fill the role of 'Dr. Loomis'. She can be on a mission to try to warn everybody what's coming and try to stop "death on two legs" before he stalks and kills more horny teenagers in Haddonfield on Halloween night.

Re: Halloween (October 19th, 2018) Written by Danny McBride of all people

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/891987-exclusive-jason-blum-dishes-on-the-halloween-reboot

Exclusive: Jason Blum Dishes on the Halloween Reboot

With filming set to begin in just a few weeks in Charleston, South Carolina on the next chapter in the Halloween franchise, ComingSoon.net had the chance to speak exclusively with Blumhouse impresario Jason Blum (The Purge, Get Out, Split) about the new movie’s director David Gordon Green and bringing original director John Carpenter back into the fold!

ComingSoon.net: I was really thrilled when you got David to do the “Halloween” movie. I met him back in 2000 when he came to my college with “George Washington” and I was floored by that movie. And even though it was very tender and poetic, it also has a haunting quality, so David doing horror always seemed like a cool idea. Can you talk a little bit about David bringing his style to the genre and what appealed to you about him on this project?

Jason Blum:
I think that good horror movie directors are good directors. Hollywood thinks you have to have directed a good horror movie to direct a studio horror movie, but I would much rather have someone who has directed a bunch of good movies than one good horror movie to direct one of our movies. What David brings to “Halloween” is he’s an amazing storyteller. He’s writing with Danny [McBride] and we start shooting in about five weeks, but what he’s bringing to it are his abilities as a great storyteller.

CS: As a huge Carpenter fan, I was always curious about the “Halloween 4” idea he had prior to the one that got made, which I believe Dennis Etchison wrote a script for, that was more about the idea of Michael Myers as a spirit. Did you ever talk to Carpenter about that script and the ideas he and Debra Hill had?

Blum:
I didn’t talk to him about that, but I think David might have.

CS: How would you describe Carpenter’s involvement in the movie?

Blum:
We don’t take any big steps without his approval, so for instance hiring David and Danny he approved. He approved their pitch, he approved their first script. He approved bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis. So anytime we make a big creative turn, he’s involved with that and we don’t do it without his blessing.

CS: I know he’s been very happy to sit back and take the checks when the remakes come around, but it’s good to hear he has more of an active involvement in this one, or at least a say.

Blum:
We went to him and asked him to be involved. There was no contractual, financial or any other obligation to have him on this movie. We went back and asked him to join us again.

CS: Was our former ShockTillYouDrop editor Ryan Turek involved in that initiative?

Blum:
He was less a part of that, but Ryan was a huge part of us doing “Halloween.” Ryan was the one who drove that decision from the very beginning. Ryan sat at the table, I still remember, and said, “We have to make ‘Halloween,’ this is what’s happened and this is where it’s going.” We wouldn’t ever have gotten involved with “Halloween” if it weren’t for Ryan.

Jamie Lee Curtis will return to the franchise that kicked off her career and she will once again be playing the iconic role of Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers. Despite Curtis’ character being unceremoniously killed off for 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection, in true Halloween franchise fashion the new film will ignore the continuity of many of the sequels in favor of telling its own story branching off the first two films. Curtis has previously appeared in four films in the series, including the 1978 original, its 1981 sequel, 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and Resurrection.

David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) will direct Halloween and co-write the script for the film with Danny McBride (yes, Eastbound & Down star Danny McBride).

John Carpenter will executive produce with Malek Akkad producing for Trancas and Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse. Green and McBride will also executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner. Zanne Devine and David Thwaites will oversee for Miramax which is co-financing with Blumhouse.

The film will arrive in theaters from Universal Pictures on October 19, 2018, forty years after the premiere of the original film.

Laurie's new Daughter hmm well they are truly breaking away from the other films. I hope it's not just Michael chasing these two for a hour and a half that's too bland whoever they bring something new to bring people to see the film.

Interview with Carpenter.

https://www.stereogum.com/1966097/qa-john-carpenter-talks-new-album-anthology-the-upcoming-halloween-sequel/franchises/interview/

STEREOGUM: Jamie Lee Curtis is coming back for the new Halloween. Did you get involved with getting her on board?

CARPENTER:
No. She talked to the director. Her part was written into the script and they had this idea — it’s kind of a… I don’t know how to describe it. It’s almost an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made. It’s gonna be fun. There’s a really talented director and it was well-written. I’m impressed.
So they're ignoring II as well then. That's an interesting turn. I figured that when they said they were ignoring sequels they meant IV-Ressurection. Laurie and Michael won't be siblings then.

I'm really interested as to what direction they are now going in tbh. Yeah they say they're following the first one now, but I wonder what that means for JLC, given her apparent age in this new movie and what exactly the story entails.

I'm definitely intrigued.
