Think about it. John Cena's target audience at this point might as well be 10 year old's and soccer mom's. But after he won the title, his gimmick shifted and he became...err...the John Cena we know today, I guess :p. However, if he still kept that hardcore gimmick from early 2005 onwards, would he be in the position he's in now? Or just lose the title Swagger/Sheamus style and be completely forgotten by the bookers?

Personally, I don't think he would make it. If the bookers planned to change Cena's gimmick from the beginning, then there would probably be no hope for him in future storylines with as the rapster.

'Bout you guyz :3

Its a good gimmick for a 24 year old guy, its a bad gimmick for a married family man in his 30s who does Make A Wish foundation stuff. Sometimes a character, even if you like it, needs to change in order to reflect a guy's age or physical state.

Right, I'm probably not the best guy to be commenting on this but here goes, I grew up watching the Attitude Era, and as we all know, it was the greatest modern era of wrestling ever, in any company. And I can't understand this PG BS, but he was perfect. The kids loved his "gangsta" ways and his pathetic attempt at rapping made me cringe, but the kids loved it, he was the perfect platform to build this kid friendly douchebag that talks about "Hustle" and "Respect". He in fact was always kid friendly. So yes, he would just have the occasional rap battle with Triple H or something...

I think he'd have gotten X Pac heat for not progressing as a character or in-ring performer. People would get fed up with it and reject. Face Cena right now is rejected by about 25 percent or more of the audience on any given RAW or PPV and could do with a little refreshing. Not a complete reboot, but a little change up and re-tooling.

It was good to get him over but probably wouldn't work as the face of the company. Cena did a good job evolving to become the face of the company. It's just a shame that in that process he continuously lost what got him over in the first place and now he is a prime target for hate from the people who loved his 'gangster' gimmick because it was cast aside in favour of placating to kids and 'soccer moms' as some people put it (I'm British so I call 'football' (like it should be haha) and 'mom' mum). Cena takes the blame for what appears to be a sell out when in reality it was a business decision.

his character flat out sucks, its boring and stale, i don't care who else was gonna be the face of the company, i don't care why he has this character, a fact is a fact, HIS CHARACTER SUCKS.

Change it or he fails as a face of the company.

I completely disagree,if his gimmick and character sucked so much then why is he the face of the company.

You may think he sucks, but a million other W W E fans think otherwise.

Cena is a very hard worker, and does absolutely everything possible to benefit the company. I don't think his gimmick has anything to do with why he is the face of the company. Thats my thoughts although I may be wrong.
I think his gimmick plays a part, but I generally agree with you. Cena is the unstoppable, superpowerful Superman that all the kids want to be. Comfortable speaker, fan-friendly, hard-working, booked well. He's like a meal high in nutrients, but that still needed charisma and an interesting gimmick to put sugar on the food that was being shoved down our throats. That's the difference in why Sheamus didn't get over and he did.

P.S. You're sig made me remember what's important in life.
