Doubt anyone cares, but this be the rant section and I'm a gonna rant til me hearts content!!!

So I've been sick with a strep throat since Game 1 of the World Series (which sucks a boat load in it's self since, being from the Boston area, I really wanted to enjoy it!) but just as that was starting to dispearse, in sets this wonderful ringing in my ears. JOY!!!

After two miserable days spent sleeping in my bed (and trying numerous suggestions /home rememdies) hoping it'd go away, I log on to WebMD to find out what the problem is. Not 2 minutes later do I find what I'm looking for.

You have: etitius media w/ effusion. GREAT!!!! So, what's that mean, you're wondering? It means that a tube in my throat that connects to my inner ear is blocked, and fluid is trapped behind my eardrum. These are the moments you'd hope to have health insurance.

Now...the part that really sucks.

According to WebMD, this ailment supposedly lasts anywhere from 2 weeks (minimum) to 3 months! (YAY!) I do aim to get a second opinion though (cuz WebMD is just a means of detection...I'm sure it's on the money though) but for now....having limited hearing and a constant ringing in my ears...I can only hope it's not.

But maybe someone on here has dealt with this before and can shed some light on what I can do to fix the situation. Maybe not? All I know is not being able to play my guitar cuz I can't hear good is really pissing me off. (Not as pissed as my mom is that I have to crank my TV up so I can hear it when she's trying to sleep in the next room over)

Welp, that's it for now.

o hey slam. Are you on antibiotics? What about a hot water bottle (I suppose that's what you foreigners call them) on your ear? I dunno it might burst your eardrum. Welcome back anyway :)

Nah, no antibiotics yet. Gonna swing by the hospital when my sis gets home and hope they can help me out a lil. So far I've done the "cap full a' peroxide" trick....aside from feeling cool, it didn't do nothing. I've yawned my ass off in hopes of uncloggin the problem. No luck. Now it feels the need to fade in and out (makin a whomph whomph whomph sound in tune to my heart beat) But alas, I'm breathin. So can't be too bad. Thanks for the welcome though :D Brightened my otherwise shitty day up a bit.

I haven't had an ear infection for ages but my 3 year old daughter has had a few of them in recent years. Unfortunately she's had most of them on weekends when the doctors are closed so we have to take her to the hospital. Bummer thing with the is if we took her to a public hospital we'll have to wait for hours to be seen and she'd be screaming, so we pay over $200 to take her to a private hospital where she'll be seen in 10 minutes. This has happened 5 times with various things. We don't want her in pain so we pay it.

When I have a sickness or disease, I just say: Go away my friend. AND WOW it leaves :)

I'm never sick and I never have an infection and shit.

Get a newspaper, roll it up to where on one end, there's a hole big enough to fit in your ear, and the other end, there will be a hole big enough for whatever. Well, set the other end on fire and let the heat pop the inside of your ear and suck the trapped air on the inside out. It works. I've done it many times because I hate antibiotics and I hate the doctor.

If you want to unblock your ears and yawning doesn't work, close your mouth, hold your nose and try to blow out through your nose. It hurts for a second, but it works.

Oh yes, one of the many joys of parenthood...an inexhaustible train of medical expenses... :(

Still, wouldn't trade them for our own life would we?

I had those ear infections about a week ago and they really pissed off, but then I figured If I ignored the symptoms they'd go away. They didn't go away but I felt better. I had to stick with swallowing and chewing gum for about 3 wks.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna be stuck doing. It's gotten better, but it's still ringing and I can feel fluid in there. Oh well, eventualy it'll fix it's self.

Nope, I'm the one with the voodoo doll. But I've been doing happy things like putting lubricant on the crotch area of the doll and rubbing it for a few minutes every day. It's my way of saying I love you.
