Gimmick PPVS' effects on Wrestlemania

This is NOT a thread to bash wrestlemania 27.

But anyone else felt the extra ppvs have truly hurt wrestlemania big time?

1st. MiTB. This is a match that has become a staple in wrestlemania folklore 6 years and normally gets the crowd pump up. MiTB would normally mean a young star is being made and ready to step out from midcard to main event. Egde and CM Punk are prime examples. But look what happened, why bother having one when they can have two on a dedicated PPV?

2nd. Ladder matches always had a good spot in wrestlemania card. Spotfests may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it gets the crowd going nonetheless. imagine the likes of evan bourne, john morrison and even a debuting sin cara in a ladder match at mania. that could have stole the show. of course they cannot have so many ladder matches on a calendar year because they already have a dedicated ladder ppv and money in the bank ppv, which guarantees 2 ladder matches.

3rd. Hardcore matches too have lost their luster in recent times, but at mania, those matches can steal the show if booked right. we had one match at mania and couldn't have any more because the very next ppv after mania is a ppv for hardcore matches. imagine punk/orton in a street fight. although i have doubts that they could've surpassed the match they put in today, the crowd reaction would've been infinetely better.

like i said, this is not complete bash at wrestlemania, it's my general feeling about the WWE PPVs and their placing in the calendar year. what happened to the granddady of them all. shouldn't they just give all out in the biggest stage of the year? why holding back in the most important show of the year?

WM shouldn't have gimmick matches anyway. That's my thought.

MITB is stale too.
WM definitely needed a match like MITB or cage match, matches where just boring this year.

I think the best matches in mania history have been gimmick matches.

Submission Match: Bret Hart vs Steve Austin – WM 13
Streak vs. Career: The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels – WM 26 (its a gimmick match)
Career Threatening Match: Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels – WM 24
I-C Title Ladder Match: Razor Ramon vs Shawn Michaels – WM 10
TLC Match: Edge & Christian vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Hardy Boyz - WM 17
HHH vs HBK vs Benoit - WM XX (triple threat counts as a gimmick)
Hart vs HBK - WM XII

ect
WWE likes to call itself entertainment but its still WRESTLEmania.

Jumping off ladders isn't wrestling.
I never got why they did this. I much preferred Backclash, Unforgiven, Armageddon, Bad Blood, No Mercy, No Way Out, KOTR etc. You didn't know what was going happen.
Well I think Gimmick PPVs hurt PPVs in general.

It feels like they are forcing feuds & wrestlers into gimmicks that don't really warrant them. Probably the best example was Hell in a Cell Last year. How on God's green Earth does Randy Orton Vs. Sheamus belong inside Hell in a Cell? It doesn't. Or how about that Christian/Shelton Ladder Match at the TLC PPV. The ONLY reason that was a Ladder match was the thought that both of them are good at Ladder matches, but there was no feud or reasoning for the gimmick besides that. It devalues the gimmick by constantly doing things like that & you are kind of shortchanging yourself. If you have a Ladder Match PPV, it becomes hard to sell a grudge match as a Ladder Match at another PPV even if that feud warrants it. Its like "I just bought a Ladder Match PPV 2 months ago and now they are asking me to buy another one?"

It feels like they are booking the feuds to fit the gimmicks rather than the gimmicks to fit the feuds, if that makes any sense.

TripleG said it best. The gimmick is supposed to fit the feud, not the other way around.

No it makes sense because that is exactly what they are doing, and, for reasons you stated, it does not work.

As for MITB, I think it's a totally played out concpet anyway. Certainly too played out to have two of them. I think they should not even do MITB for a few years. Give it a little time to get it's mystique back because right now there is none.
