This is a trend the adult industry needs to stay as far away from as possible. Actually all media does, but this will ultimately hurt them much more then it will help them. Especially in the gay industry. It will probably come out that many of the people they sued are not "out". Now what kind of gay person wants to support a company that will so shamelessly go after someone like that? Not to mention porn in general is something you hide so it makes sense that many folks "steal" it.

These companies are clinging to DVD, and that ship is sinking. They will sink with it if they don't get with the times. Now you have this move? Why? What purpose does it serve? People are still going to illegally download content. Not to mention these are the very same people porn relies on. I can guarantee you that the majority of stars success are built on clips being passed around the internet freely. This leads to Google searches which then leads to their actual content being bought.

I've said for awhile (amongst colleagues) now that the major studios need to get together and create a Hulu like channel. It could have the fluff stuff that is put out every year on it. The films that are quickly shot with medium to low budgets. They then could have their own "premium" content, keep it streaming and put some DRM on it. Problem solved. If the content is already free it makes it no big deal to "steal", you make money off of banner ads, and other adverts (I'm sure some sextoys manufactures would be more then happy to shell out the money). Just like with Hulu lots of people are to lazy to find it for free. They don't mind putting up with ads to see it for free.

Also I touched on this up top, but outing people even in straight porn is horrible business. The argument could be made that maybe that will stop folks from "stealing" it, but I have a feeling it won't. It will only cause people to avoid those studios in general. Look at the horrible PR the RIAA and MPAA have gotten when they sued individuals. At least then the Hollywood studios can kind of play smoke n' mirrors and say, "well we don't have much to do with really it's the Union that handles those decisions.". So they get a free pass. Well the adult industry is not unionized and this could spark off other major companies into doing the same thing. fpalm Which would be a bad decision.

Ok sorry rant over.

On one hand I am amused how the they try to more or less blackmail closeted gays into settling

On the other it is dishonest and makes them look like bullies who will do anything to grab pennies over even the most minor infractions

In my opinion businesses need to wake up and understand that unless they can fully shut down all the torrent sites all they can do is put their finger in the dike. Its not going to hold

Smarter people have found ways to make a lot of money online but these "leading" industry seem to be afraid to evolve
