George Wagner, also known as Gorgeous George was truly a Legend in the sense of the word. For someone with a short stature and not too athletic, he become one of the greatest legends in wrestling purely by his in-ring skills, charisma and flashiness.
His marriage which happened inside the ring which set precedent that followed right up to 1000th Raw episode. Even Mohammed Ali attributed his persona outside the ring to be inspired by this man. Ric Flair, Rick Rude, Macho Man, Jesse Ventura took some of his personality to get over.
But his greatest contribution that has been passed down for generations is Cheating to win, he showed to the people that the best and easiest way to draw heel heat was to cheat whenever and wherever possible.
"Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat!" was his motto, sounds familiar?
To be fair, Lou Thesz went on to say after winning AWA title that he could wrestle pretty well.
Some other of his quotes are: "I'll crawl across the ring and cut my hair off! But that's not gonna happen because I'm the greatest wrestler in the world!" on a promo before his match with Freddie Blassie which was taken by Ali before his match with Sonny Liston.
