Extreme Championship Wrestling 2001 - Tales of a Jaded Old Man

Hello BTB'ers. I'm back :). It's been 2 and a half years since I finished TTO, and here I am, with another ECW adventure. I'm an old jaded man, so don't expect quality of yesteryears, but I will do my best to entertain you all again :)

"...It's over. I'm so badly in debt, I can't afford to pay anyone another penny, let alone thousands of dollars. It's yours, Vince; you've won."

He was a broken man, Paul Heyman. His company in millions of dollars of debt, almost all of his top stars having abandoned him over the years, and no network television deal to help bring in a source of revenue his promotion so badly needed - this is the definition of defeat in professional wrestling.

Vince McMahon: "You gave the world of professional wrestling a hell of a run, Heyman. Admitting defeat is nothing to be ashamed of; you and ECW will forever have left a mark on this industry."

Extreme Championship Wrestling. Three words that will be always make one think about the upstart company formed out of a bingo hall, whether they be good or bad.

Paul Heyman: "That sounds great and all, but that doesn't mean anything, as you know, in the real world. Like all the boys who worked for me, a legacy won't put food on my table. A legacy won't pay Rob Van Dam the one-hundred thousand some dollars I owe him. A legacy won't provide for the families of a Tommy Dreamer, a Sandman, a Joey Styles."

Vince McMahon: "I'm a businessman, Paul, so I know where you're going with this. You know I have always had a - what's the right term? - soft spot..."

Paul Heyman: "If you call signing up some of my best performers a soft spot, then yeah, that's accurate."

Vince McMahon: "I've had a soft spot for you, your company, and the way you ran business. You didn't convert to mainstream norms, Paul. You did things your way, and I respect that. I've given you money in the past, and if you are looking for a job, there is one waiting for you here with the WWF."

Paul Heyman: "I know I'll be fine, Vince. It's my boys I worry about."

Vince McMahon: "You know I'm not just going to sign every ECW wrestler under the sun. Some of your people just won't draw in the WWF. Now, Van Dam, he can be a star. But guys like New Jack, Balls Mahoney, those lot, they'll have to find their own way."

Paul Heyman: "And that's what worries me. I didn't have the most talented bunch, but they were my land of misfit toys. The world of wrestling is falling. It may only benefit you, McMahon, but just look around: ECW is dead, who knows what the future holds for WCW, and there is no other independent promotion on the rise. That XPW shit is fuckin garbage, and you know it. There won't be many places for a lot of my boys."

Vince McMahon: "Life can be cruel, Paul, you of all people should know. But the fact is - life is handing you an opportunity to ensure your own survival - I am giving you an opportunity. With me. So let's just get to it, Paul. What do you say?"

Paul Heyman: "You know I'll have to accept, Vince. But before I do, I need to let everyone in ECW know our fate - I can't just join the WWF without telling the boys that it's all over for us."

Vince McMahon: "Then so be it. Call me when you're ready to accept my offer."

***

"Hey Paul, it's me."

Paul Heyman: "Ha ha holy shit, man! How you been?"

???: "Everything's been great, Paulie. I'm getting to spend a lot more time with the kids, go on vacations... normal Dad stuff. And finally, I can just sit back and watch it, you know, as a fan."

Paul Heyman: "I hear ya'. Haven't been watching any Extremely Crappy Wrestling now, have ya'?"

???: "C'mon, Paul! Me and the oldest sat down together and ordered the show and watched it together. It was a nice show, Paulie, but I gotta tell ya', you need TV man. The fans can't just keep relying on pay per view every month or what have you."

Paul Heyman: "Heh, that's the problem *censored*. You see, there will never be another pay per view for ECW. We're dead, *censored*."

???: "Get the fuck out!"

Paul Heyman: "I'm serious. I just can't do it anymore. The debt is too astronomical. I owe so many people so much. RVD, Dreamer, Joey Styles, Francine, various arenas that we ran shows out of. It's just too much. I'm at my end - I just can't keep up with everything anymore. I already talked to Vince about it... I'm going to go to work for the WWF, and arrange a deal with Vince to buy out the company. He'll pay off the debts I owe, and get all the video library and names, everything."

???: "Damn, Paulie. I knew it was bad for you, but I didn't think it was that bad. I was really hoping that you guys would land another TV deal. A lot of people up north were pulling for you guys to get with USA after that TNN fiasco."

Paul Heyman: "We never heard back from them. There just isn't a place for ECW on television. HBO and Showtime wouldn't solve the problem - not enough people would be able to watch us, and they wouldn't pay for the production of the show. USA was our last hope, and well, it's not going to happen."

???: "That's messed up, man. I really would've expected them to bring you guys on. This is such a shame, Paulie. ECW is something special. Something that could stand alone from WWF and WCW. A place to make stars out of the up and comers of this industry, and for the guys nobody else wanted. I wish there was something I could do to help you save it, man. You know how much I respect and love that place, Paulie."

Paul Heyman: "Hah, well unless you're willing to say goodbye to about three to five million, you can't do a damn thing."

???: "...you need it in one go, or increments?"

Wait, is this guy for real? And who is he, too!?

Paul Heyman: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. You can't be serious, *censored*. You can't afford to throw around that kind of money!"

???: "Don't you know who I am? Haha ha. I've got millions, Paulie! I'm making money left and right throughout investments! Okay, I may not be able to just write out a check right now for four million dollars, but over time, I can invest money into ECW, and we can do things to make a profit."

Paul Heyman: "Look, we're talking about millions of your own money being thrown into a company with no stability, and no true reason to be optimistic for the future. Even if ECW magically inherits five million dollars, we're still no closer to getting a TV deal, and like you said: we need TV. ECW won't survive without a television deal."

???: "All things that could be worked out, Paulie."

Paul Heyman: You're serious, aren't you? You really want to just throw away millions of dollars for me? For ECW?"

???: "I wouldn't call it throwing away millions of dollars. This is an investment, Paul. I want to make my mark on wrestling. I think I have the ability to be a guy helping to run a company, to help push ECW to a new level. We can get ECW back on TV, Paul. Someone will take on this company! And WCW... I'm hearing stuff, man. Bad stuff. A lot of people don't think it will be around here shortly. And that only leaves the WWF... and ECW. You keep this company going, and more people are going to start tuning into ECW."

Paul Heyman: "...You really want to do this? This is so fucking rash, man."

???: "Never been more serious in my life. It's all about legacy, Paulie. No matter what happens now, a week from now, or a decade from now, ECW will have a lasting legacy. You, you will have a lasting legacy. Me, I like to think I will too. But we have the power to make all three an even bigger, better legacy. I've been thinking about opening my own promotion for over a year now, to further my work in this industry. But Paul, why go through all of the start-up problems, when I can help you out, help ECW out, right here and now?"

Valid point.

Paul Heyman: "Look, *censored*, I really appreciate the sentiment here, but this is just too rash. I don't want you jumping into a life-changing decision just because you hear we are going under. I want you to think about it. If you are serious about doing this, then shit, I'm right fucking there. This company is my baby, but working with you, we could create a few waves for sure!"

???: "I'll take time to mull it over, but I can tell you now, my end decision will remain the same: I want in, Paul. I want in on ECW."

Very compelling opening passage here and you have my attention already with this. I was never around during your time on top around here but have read your Trio Ownership thread and if this is half as good then you'll have another cracker on your hands. Look forward to more of this! Good luck(Y)
I saw this coming from a mile away after your post in the discussion thread and your comment in Baldwin's thread. That was way too much activity for you to just be popping by. :p Good luck old man.
R.I.P my ECW thread - Cause of Death - Crushed by Szumi.... :p

But, this thread has potential, not that I even need to say it after the epic threads you've done in the past. Really enjoyed the opening post and will be interesting to see what you do from here on out. I'll be reading for sure. Best of luck. (Y)
Really good backstory here. I wasn't around when you were on top of this section, so I'm glad that I might be able to see your work again. Anyway, really interesting as to who this person Heyman is talking to. Instantly getting people hooked, good job with that. But I really didn't expect anything less. Looking forward to this, hope you stick around :D
Opening post was very entertaining. I'm hooked already, just wondering who the investor is. Good luck :)
Jerry Lawler investing in ECW it seems, interesting indeed. Your WCW diary was great, so I have high hopes for this one. ECW however is a very difficult promotion to book for though, getting across that ECW atmosphere and style via text can be tricky. Good luck!
Came back to the boards at the right time man. I am really looking forward to where this goes. TV is key to making it work.

Question Szumi, are you using EWR like you did with TTO?
Thank you all for the love. Means a lot. Hopefully I can live up to your hype :p and I am indeed using EWR, as I also post at EWB, which is a EWR-based forum.

“Hello?”

???: “It’s me, Paulie. I’ve talked with the wife, thought things over for the past two days... I want in, Paul. I want to help save ECW.”

Paul Heyman: “I knew you wouldn’t be changing your mind, *censored*. Hell, I’m surprised you didn’t call me sooner! Haha ha!”

???: “Well, I took what you said seriously. And let me tell you, man, I’ve been thinking about this nonstop. Ways to help the company make a profit, potential networks for television, creative angles for some of the wrestlers, guys who could really fit into ECW, everything... I’m stoked for this, Paulie.”

Paul Heyman: “Sounds to me like you really want to be involved.”

???: “...Well, that’s where it gets a little complicated.”

Paul Heyman: “What do you mean, complicated?”

???: “I want to be backing ECW, pitching in with ideas, helping you out to make ECW a major player in our industry, but... there’s a catch.”

Paul Heyman: “...a catch?”

???: “No one can know.”

Paul Heyman: “What the hell do you mean, *censored*!? You’re all gung-ho, pitching this idea about coming in and saving ECW, helping to keep the company afloat... but you want your role to be a complete mystery?”

???: “Yeah... pretty much.”

Shady character.

Paul Heyman: “No offense, man, but this doesn’t scream reassuring to me.”

???: “Where I’m at now... I have a job. I’m still making a lot of money right now, and if I come out publicly as the guy who is helping Paul Heyman keep ECW alive, I’m out of a job. I’m losing a source of potential income for your company, Paul, and right now... that’s about the only source of income you have.”

Silence.

Paul Heyman: “I’ll be real honest with ya’ man, I don’t know how much I like this. I was thinking over the past few days that it’d be you and I teaming up to take on the world.”

???: “We’d still be a team, but Paul, ECW is your baby. With me staying in the background, it continues to be that way. We don’t have to deal with a lot of creative conflicts because it’s going to be you still making the creative decisions, you still running the vast majority of your company.”

Paul Heyman: “You make a fair point, *censored*.”

???: “After the thoughts and conversations I’ve had with myself, I’m looking at it this way. I can help out with some of the monetary woes the company has right now. Pitch some storyline ideas with you, and do whatever I can do to help you out as a silent backer.”

Paul Heyman: “Alright, Mr. Silent Backer. Tell me then, what would your first step be to help this company out?”

???: “Hire someone to take care of the books so you’re not doing it yourself?”

Mutual laughter is shared between the two men. It’s well known where Heyman really failed with his baby - the money.

Paul Heyman: “You’re a son of a bitch, ya’ know that? But all kidding aside, that is something I know that needs to be done. I’ve stressed myself out, stretched myself too thin, over the past few years. I need help running this company, as much as I wish I could do it all myself.”

???: “There’s no shame in accepting help, Paulie.”

Paul Heyman: “Oh, I know. After all, I’m going to be accepting your money!”

More laughter is shared between the two.

Paul Heyman: “All jokes aside, prove your worth to me: what do you see as the next move for ECW?”

???: “We go back to page one. And page one, is finding a network to put us on TV. We need to reach out to every possible network that might work a deal with us, try and find one that will help to pay for the production. ...And we start trying to square off some debts. So what I need to know, Paul, who are the big people you owe money to?”

And there is Paul’s moment of humiliation.

Paul Heyman: “RVD is owed something like one-hundred fifty thousand dollars. Dreamer and Joey Styles each are owed one-hundred thousand, and I owe Rhino and Francine about half of that. Oh, and Shane Douglas is owed about fifty K, but fuck him.”

???: “Reach out to Van Dam and Rhino, ASAP. Convince them to stay, and we can start re-paying some of their debt. Those two guys are your stars.”

Paul Heyman: “Trust me, I know. I’m going to get a hold of everyone and let them know we’re staying in business, and what our future plan is. No matter how optimistic you’re making me feel right now, we’re going to lose some of the boys in the back. It’s not a happy locker room, anymore. So many people are owed money, even if it is less than a thousand dollars. They’re disgruntled, and I’m telling you now, *censored* - if we don’t get a TV deal fast, this little rescue act of yours is going to matter naught. We’re going to see people jump ship to the WWF or WCW very quickly.”

???: “Then let’s go find ourselves a network to air some ECW.”

***

“...So, have you decided to take my offer?”

A guaranteed check for over five-hundred thousand dollars a year, or continue to live on the edge with a company you help built from the ground up that may still go bankrupt, despite the help of a financial backer?

Paul Heyman: “I was ready to, Vince. But after a lot of consideration, I’m going to keep trying to make it work with ECW.”

Vince McMahon: “That’s all well and good, Paul, but I thought you said you were broke? That the company was bankrupt. As a businessman, how in the hell are you going to keep a sinking ship above water?”

Paul Heyman: “Heh, sometimes Vince, the pieces all just fall together in the right places.”

Vince McMahon: “Cryptic, Heyman. I’m sure you have an ace up your sleeve with this, as you tend to do. I’ll wish you nothing but the best of luck with your little company, but remember one thing, Paul: I may respect you, but if ECW is sticking around, it remains competition for the WWF. If I see something I like in that bingo hall, I’m going to take it.”

Paul Heyman: “Heh, so the status quo remains the same, McMahon.”

~Despite many reports and rumors that the PPV ECW held on January 7, Guilty as Charged, would be their last show, it can now be confirmed those reports to be false. Despite being in serious financial trouble for the past few years now, ECW owner Paul Heyman has reportedly found a financial backer to well, back the company financially. No one has been able to get a leak on any information about the financial backer. Whether the backer is a group, or person, remains to be a mystery. And that is what it’s looking to stay as, a mystery.

~In an effort to stop the company from bleeding money, ECW's syndicated show, Hardcore TV, has been canceled, effective immediately. The show aired throughout the middle of the night throughout different regions of the USA, mainly along the east coast. However, the show was only hurting the company from a financial standpoint, and with the company looking to save money while getting back onto national TV, Hardcore TV is the first sacrifice to be made.

~Paul Heyman has openly stated that ECW must get back on national television to stay alive, and that will be his goal throughout 2001, getting a new television deal. Reported networks that Heyman is either interested in working with, or networks interested in ECW, are: Comcast, E!, Cinemax, MTV, Showtime, and the USA Network. For ECW, the main selling point for them will be which networks will pay for their production cost, and which will not. More on this as it occurs.

~With the financial backer now supplying ECW with some funds to keep the company afloat, the main goal of Heyman and his backers have been to work on paying back the wrestlers and staff that Heyman has owed the most money to, namely ECW’s top star, Rob Van Dam. Van Dam is owed roughly one-hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The other two men owed the most are longtime members of the company, Tommy Dreamer and Joey Styles. All three men have reportedly been paid some of the assets owed to them.

~Despite wrestlers getting their paychecks all paid, finally, wrestlers are still rumored to be exploring other options. World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation both are reported to be interested in a number of ECW wrestlers, including, but not just, Rob Van Dam, Jerry Lynn, Rhino, Super Crazy, Guido Maritato, Yoshihiro Tajiri, and even Joey Styles and Joel Gertner. One man who has already left the company is Steve Corino, who walked out of the company following Guilty as Charged after not getting paid for his appearance in the ECW World Heavyweight Title match. Corino is widely expected to sign for World Championship Wrestling in the following days.

~With the chance of current ECW wrestlers heading for higher pastures, ECW is reported to be looking at bringing back veterans of Extreme Championship Wrestling, as well as some of the up and coming independent talent. Former ECW alumni linked with the company include men such as Juventud Guerrera, New Jack, the Pitbulls, Psicosis, Public Enemy, Sabu, and Scorpio. Independent talent includes up and comers such as the Amazing Red, Boogalou and Homicide, Danny Dominion, Donovan Morgan, Michael Modest, Michael Shane, Scoot Andrews, and Xavier. While those names are just options, two men who are expected to start taking bookings with ECW are the 2001 ECWA Super 8 Winner, Low-Ki, and the third generation superstar, Teddy Hart. Both men are seen as great talents, and could definitely have a great future in wrestling.

~As of right now, Paul Heyman is continuing to stress how much of an importance it is that ECW gets away from syndicated television, and get back on national television. The basic view point at this point in time in the ECW locker room is: If ECW does not get back on national television by the end of April, ECW will be a dead fish. Many fear that if ECW continues on syndicated TV, wrestlers will walk, and more importantly, so will the financial backer. ECW has narrowed down its candidates of suitors; MTV, Showtime, and the USA Network. Heyman will have meetings with them all immediately. Heyman will first be meeting with MTV, but many critics do not believe that ECW will be able to land a deal with MTV. For those who aren’t aware, MTV is the current host of Sunday Night Heat, the ‘B’ show of the World Wrestling Federation. Despite this, Heyman insists to try and talk to them about getting a TV deal; only time will tell what happens there. It seems that ECW's main target is the USA Network, followed by MTV. Showtime is nothing more than an alternative to the other two networks; Showtime would generate the lowest ratings of the three, but would allow the least restrictions. But nonetheless, Heyman's top network is the USA Network.

Wondering who the big mystery backer is...really interesting. Maybe Mick Foley? Maybe Steve Austin? Who knows. Great over arching angle to keep us guessing.

Using EWR is rough hope you get a TV deal asap, MTV could work but USA is the more main stream approach. Curious to see what "new" stars you create on your roster. Hopefully you'll pick up some of the WCW cast offs, Scott Hall should be available, lol. Curt Hennig too. Need some "name" power for a USA.

Steve Corino leaving is sad, cause I loved the King of Old School in ECW.
G
This is very interesting and the mystery backer is a great story, wonder if you ever reveal the identity of him or her, but its obvious somebody who knows Heyman on a very personal level, Foley is a good shout but I could even see it being Raven, would be a great angle

Hoping that ECW can hold onto their top stars but expecting a big name departure, its bound to happen
Ain't this a nice surprise.

Nice to see you back around these parts, Szum. Riveting start to what should be a hell of a diary. Your one (or two?) ECW ventures were great, and I'm sure this one won't be any different. Will continue to follow for sure. (Y)
I love me some ECW reading and Jerry Lawler as the investor is really interesting, especially interested to see if you follow through with his real life WWF quiting in protest of wife's firing. Then choose whether, or how, to use him on air following such, as he'd be a real heat magnet still for his Extremely Crappy Wrestling words.
I wasn't around when you were posting shows before, but I've read your TTO thread and you're called one of the best for a reason. Intriguing start to the thread and I will be reading for sure!
"I bring you good mother fuckin' news."

???: "Oh yeah? How good are we talking about?"

Paul Heyman: "We're talking good like you're involved in a company that in a month's time, is going to be on cable fucking television!"

Nothing else needed to be said. The message, the ecstasy was clear enough. Extreme Championship Wrestling, effectively, had just been saved.

~Paul Heyman met with MTV at the very beginning of the month, and the critics who said they wouldn't sign a deal with ECW, was right. MTV and Viacom Inc. did not want to pick up another wrestling company on its TV Networks.

~However, Heyman had a meeting just yesterday with NBC Universal Inc. It appears that the NBC based company is much more willing than the CBS based company, as it can already be announced that Extreme Championship Wrestling has signed a television deal with NBC Universal Inc., and mainly, the USA Network! ECW and USA have been linked with a deal ever since the summer of 2000, when the World Wrestling Federation was trying to leave the USA Network for The National Network, the television channel that was broadcasting ECW at the time. While the move for ECW has taken a lot longer than expected, it seems that USA has finally decided to re-integrate wrestling into their broadcast; Raw is War was the number one rated show for the USA Network by far, and USA will be looking for ECW to help USA out in the ratings.

~With the news of ECW and the USA Network reaching a deal now rapidly spreading throughout the internet, the advertising for ECW will be at a new high point. ECW’s “Extreme TV” will air every Friday night from 10PM to 11PM EST, starting Friday, March 30. ECW, which has only been running house shows for over the past month since running their Guilty as Charged PPV at the start of January, will hold another pay per view event just before the debut of ECW on USA when Living Dangerously airs on Sunday, March 25. Both Extreme TV and the Living Dangerously PPV are expected to be hyped heavily by USA in the run-up to ECW’s debut on the network. For those who feared the worst for ECW’s future, this is without a doubt the best news possible for the Philadelphia and New York based company.

~For anyone wanting to see any live ECW events in the build-up to Living Dangerously and the USA debut, sorry, it's not happening. Paul Heyman is continuing a "dark" period for the company, running no live events out of Viking Hall in the run-up to Living Dangerously. It seems that Heyman will have Living Dangerously be a one-off style of pay per view with no real build-up to it, apart from Guilty as Charged and other past ECW events. As of now, the ECW official website is promoting two triangle matches as the headline for the show. The first will be a match between ECW icon Tommy Dreamer and rivals Jerry Lynn and Rob Van Dam, and the second, the main event, will feature ECW World & TV Champion Rhino take on Sandman, who lost the World Title to Rhino at Guilty as Charged just moments after winning it, and the winner of the first triangle match. With Rhino holding both the TV and World Title, the match is being billed with both titles on the line in the main event.

~Paul Heyman continues to be very high on the current independent wrestler, Low-Ki. Low-Ki has been making a name for himself throughout America in the past year, as well as Japan. Low-Ki is currently a heavy favorite to win the 2001 ECWA Super 8 Cup. For those who are wondering, the Super 8 Cup will take place February 24. Depending on Low-Ki’s success at the Super 8 Tournament, he could very well land himself a spot in ECW in the near future.

~While Low-Ki possibly may work for ECW in the near future, it has been reported that a former ECW star will be working for ECW in the very near future. Whoever this wrestler is, he is expected to show up and appear at either Living Dangerously or the USA debut of ECW's Extreme TV, and be a fulltime member of the ECW roster once again. Rumors have been making the rounds as to who the wrestler may be, but at this current juncture, it is not known just who this mystery wrestler will be.
G
Nice update Szumi

Glad that Heyman got them a TV deal, this gives them real leverage and a certain amount of stability

With the fact Rhino has both belts maybe it would be a good idea to have the Living Dangerously main event a 2 fall match with the 1st fall for the TV title and the 2nd fall for the world title, would be a simple way to move one title off Rhino

Hoping the former star coming back is either Mike Awesome or Lance Storm, two of my favourites, dont think they have the funds to get a Benoit, Guerrero or Jericho back in

Look forward to the next post
The Wrestling Arsenal said:
~The internet has been buzzing for the entire month about the futures of WCW and ECW, and it seems that the wrestling world will soon have all the answers they desire. Last night on Nitro, it was announced that the March 26th edition of Monday Nitro will be a "season finale" and a Night of Champions, meaning all titles will be on the line. At this point, all WCW programming will be canceled by the Turner networks, effective March 26. The last Thunder will air on TBS March 21st. The future of WCW programming is up in the air, as it does not look likely that AOL-Time Warner will ever be putting wrestling back on the network, regardless of what happens with WCW's future.

~The front runner to purchase WCW has been Eric Bischoff for most of the year, backed by Fusient Media Ventures. At one point in January, the deal was thought to be all but finalized, however, the decision by Jamie Kellner to cancel Nitro and Thunder from the Turner networks has thrown Bischoff's deal into complete chaos. Bischoff's attempt to purchase WCW is looking skeptical as of this writing, as Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation have inquired about purchasing their arch-rival. Both sides are working frivously to get a deal done within the week, and while the decision will most likely go down to the wire, many expect the future of WCW to be known by the time Night of Champions rolls around on March 26.

~With ECW's next pay per view event less than a week away, the ECW website has announced more matches to the card. Apart from the two previously announced triangle matches, it has been announced that Danny Doring and Amish Roadkill will defend their Tag Team Titles against the Unholy Alliance of Mikey Whipwreck and Yoshihiro Tajiri, and Justin Credible will face off against Balls Mahoney after his enemy-turned-partner Steve Corino walked out of ECW, ending the New Impact Players angle before it ever began. The tenative card is listed below:

3-Way Dance - Winner of 1st Fall wins TV Title; Winner of Final Fall wins World Title: Rhino (c) vs. Sandman vs. Jerry Lynn/Rob Van Dam/Tommy Dreamer
ECW Tag Titles: Doring & Roadkill (c) vs. Unholy Alliance
Balls Mahoney vs. Justin Credible
CW Anderson vs. Nova
Christian York & Joey Matthews vs. Full Blooded Italians vs. Hot Commodity
Simon Diamond vs. Super Crazy
Winner Goes to the Main Event - Jerry Lynn vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Tommy Dreamer

~With all the talk of WCW's potential demise, the company hosted what could have been its final pay per view event last Sunday with Greed, a PPV that had just over 5,000 people in attendance. The PPV was headlined by Scott Steiner retaining the WCW World Heavyweight Title against Diamond Dallas Page in a falls count anywhere match, and Dusty & Dustin Rhodes defeating Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett. Jason Jett, who wrestled in ECW under the name of EZ Money, made his WCW pay per view debut when defeated Alan Funk in the opener. Former ECW stars Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, and Rey Mysterio Jr. all appeared on the Greed card, while former ECW alumni Dusty Rhodes, Konnan, Rick Steiner, and Hugh Morrus all also wrestled at the pay per view.

~Speaking of ECW talent heading to World Championship Wrestling, three ECW stars have signed with WCW since ECW’s last pay per view in January, Guilty as Charged. As noted previously, EZ Money has joined the company under the name Jason Jett, opening the Greed pay per view. Kid Kash has joined the company as well, along with Steve Corino. Both men are yet to debut for the company, despite Corino first signing with the company in January. With WCW’s future in such disarray, no other talent are being linked with the company. The World Wrestling Federation, however, continues to be showing an interest in top stars like Rob Van Dam, Jerry Lynn, and Rhino, as well as men like Yoshihiro Tajiri, Spike Dudley, Joel Gertner, and Simon Diamond.

~In terms of wrestlers coming into ECW, the rumors of Low-Ki joining the company in the near future have continued to stay strong. While the 2001 ECWA Super 8 Winner will not be appearing at Living Dangerously, he could make his ECW debut sometime within the next month. However, the rumor that a former ECW star would be making his return to the company at Living Dangerously has fallen cold. Paul Heyman had been in contact with both Sabu and New Jack about returning to the company, but the bad blood between Sabu and Heyman stemming from last year has apparently not been fixed, and the hardcore legend will not be returning to the company. New Jack was the wrestler most strongly linked with returning to the company, but New Jack has again run into legal problems, being arrested in New York this past month after a bar fight. Both men's potential futures in ECW now looks very bleak.

Just predictions and questions - not doing the match order this time around like I used to do in the past. Winner gets to pick a match of their choosing for the first or second Extreme TV in April, as that will be the first EWR booked show. Living Dangerously and Extreme TV for 03-30 will be written without EWR.

Now post some predictions, WF'ers!

All looks pretty good thus far, looking forward to seeing what direction you go in with this. Interesting idea with the World/TV Titles being defended in the same match, probably going to be a great read. I have a feeling Rob Van Dam may go back onto his TV Title streak and pick it up from where he left it when he had to vacate it in 2000 but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. :p Looking forward to seeing this progress further. :)

Glad you made the title match a 2 fall match, made so much sense

I think there is more Lynn Van Dam to come in this BTB, o Dreamer takes the win in this one

Some are hopes such as Unholy Alliance winning as I reckon Doring and Roadkill have had the belts long enough

Gutted Awesome and Storm arent coming back but knowing you it could be a red herring and hoping for the original Impact Players

Looking forward to Living Dangerously
