I made this argument last year.

Making it again now.

Elimination chamber is fucking cool. Fucking awesome. I dunno about others, but i love when there's a big match where the outcome isn't sure because there's a lot of wild-cards involved (see Royal Rumble Match). Normally, with elimincation chamber, you never quite know whose going to win with 6 ppl in it. Example, lets look at the RAW one (let's pretend it was for the championship too, just for shits and gigles)

Cena: Always a fan favorite, #1 guy in WWE...big big possibility he comes champion at any given time. Strong favorite.
Sheamus: monster year...has been away from title scene for a while, but he's so strong, definately has ability to win title back. Strong favorite.
Morrison: huge push lately...his time is coming, very soon...why not here? Strong contender, very possible he becomes champion.
Randy Orton: again, huge with fans. past champion. Like Cena, can be a contender/favorite any given time.
R Truth: ok...maybe not so much a contender, I agree.
CM Punk. Leader of Nexus, huge push lately, past champion...making him champion while head of Nexus would be a huge heel champ. Very strong contender.

(let's even assume Miz was in the match, since it's for the belt)...Miz: Champ, way hated, great on mic, super underdog champ...somehow he'll pull it off again right? Huge favorite to win too.

My point in all of this is...imagine this Elimination chamber match i just laid out was for the title (maybe replace RTruth by the Miz). How fucking awesome would it be? Could anyone predict who would win the Champsionship? Truly? Honnestly? It could soooo go either way.....BUT NOT WHILE THIS PAY PER VIEW TAKES FUCKING PLACE IN FEBRUARY ONE MONTH AFTER THE RUMBLE AND ONE MONTH BEFORE WRESTLEMANIA.

*EVERYONE KNOWS JOHN CENA IS GOING TO WIN, BECAUSE MIZ-CENA IS GOING TO MAIN EVENT WM*.

does anyone disagree? HOW MUCH FUCKING COOLER WOULD THIS ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH BE IF IT TOOK PLACE IN SEPTEMBER, OR IN MAY, OR IN JULY, AND YOU DIDNT HAVE A WRESTLEMANIA MATCH TO BUILD FOR, FOR WHIH THERE HAD BEEN HUNDREDS OF REPORTS/RUMORS ALREADY GIVING AWAY WHAT THE WM MAIN EVENT WOULD BE, AND HENCE, THE ELIMINATION CHAMBER RESULT???

Sorry for caps, just trying to get my point across. It's so stupid. They need to move this PPV, big time :(

i love the chamber matches...but yet how can i spend 40$ to order this PPV when the results seem so predictable? Edge wins, so he can face Del Rio. Cena wins, so he can face Miz. Wouldn't this be soooo much cooler if it took place in september, or in may, when u had no idea who would win? I know that would make this ppv a must-see for me for sure.

Other reason why it's absolutely horrid placement...Del Rio just won the rumble....that normally would make him the absolute greatest biggest story in WWE between Rumble and Mania...yet....it's not...it's kinda on hold...in limbo....u can "tease" DelRio-Edge, but can't rlly build it yet cuz there's 1 pvp in the way for Edge...so i guess the biggest thing in WWE Right now...is in limbo? Dumb :(

What do you guys think? Isn't this just the worst placement imagineable for this PPV?

I see where you're coming from. But either way there is going to be a PPV and there is going to be a #1 contenders match and either way Cena is going to win. At least with the Chamber theres that sence of "well I know Cena SHOULD win but theres still 5 other guys in there".

Just look at last years. Anyone who can say they without a doubt knew Y2J and Batista were walking out as champs are kidding themselves.

Uh, last year it was more than obvious Y2J was walking out champion so they could set-up Edge/Y2J for Wrestlemania. Their intention wasn't exactly hidden. Not to mention, Undertaker had to drop the title somehow to set up the feud with Shawn Michaels and everyone was expecting Shawn to screw him over.

And while the manner of Batista's victory was surprising, the outcome wasn't as much so. It was already clear well before the Elimination Chamber PPV that WWE was going for a Cena/Batista main event for Wrestlemania. You had Batista taunting Cena, then wishing him luck on the Raw before the PPV. Even Vince makes it clear he's a business man and he made a deal with Batista. Either Cena was walking out champion with the help of Batista (so Batista could challenge him for the title - which is a roundabout way of doing things so doesn't make sense), or Batista was going to screw him over for the championship somehow and walk out with it himself (which makes more sense).

I don't see how people would be kidding themselves. It doesn't take much deduction skills to predict WWE's booking.

The year before was when there were legitimate surprises (Cena being eliminated right after entering, Edge entering the second Elimination Chamber - although it became clear he was winning once Cena was eliminated).

Yeah, gee I wonder if Edge will win this year. I agree, it's terrible placement.

The Raw one is a nailed on Cena win, the Smackdown is a little tougher to predict, its obviously between 3 guys, Ziggler, Rey and Edge. With Rey having a thing with Cody at the moment and Ziggler in the title picture. I can only see an Edge win and it being a triple threat at mania, Edge vs. Ziggler vs. Del Rio and Del Rio coming out on top. But I have been wrong before. It is the only scenario I can see though. Elimination Chamber matches do seem to be too predictable though due to the placement of the ppv. It is at a time when the WWE needs to build feuds for Wrestlemania so it is usually reasonably easy to guess the outcomes due to current rivalries etc.

While I agree with the bad timing of the Elimination Chamber PPV, I have to say that having such a title match at this time of the year is the best way to mix things up and create the matchups WWE needs for Wrestlemania.
I mean, we can have anybody as champion until after the Royal Rumble. Even if he is not gonna be in the title match at WM. And we also can keep a big name like Cena or Orton away from the title picture for a few months. But by having the Elimination Chamber match for the title(or #1 contendership) they can create any desired matchup for WM, even pull a surprise and create a championship match that nobody imagined a couple of months before Wrestlemania.

I knew Jericho was going to be win the Smackdown elimination chamber since I doubted they were going with Michaels/Taker for the belt. Plus, Edge won the Rumble and Jericho was the only guy he could logically face.

But you're right about Batista. Nobody saw that coming.

I agree with OP. The timing of this PPV sucks because of Wrestlemania following it, which makes it very predictable. Out of all EC matches that happened in February, I knew who was gonna win in advance in 4/6.

Both that I got wrong were in 2009, when WWE decided to change their Mania plans from Cena/Orton and Edge/HHH to Cena/Edge and HHH/Orton. If those plans had not changed, my predictions would have been right as well, because then Edge and Cena would have won their respective Chmaber match.
