Hello

Currently watching the Greco-Roman Wrestling at the Olympics. I think it's pretty good.

Just wondering what everyone here thinks. Do you enjoy Amateur Wrestling?

Apart from the competition, amateur wrestling and pro wrestling has nothing in common. A pet peeve of mine with fans is that they think a guy with an amateur background will instantly be a good pro-wrestler.

For the record though, I can't say I ever watched it. I don't think I would enjoy it.

I've put up with it a lot in the past being shown on the sport channels around me and no, I can't stand it. It's so boring. It takes the most boring aspect of pro-wrestling and takes it to another level, which is rest-holds.

Just watched a match a while ago, and no, it wouldn't be my thing.

I'm normally one for being mature about things, but what the hell is up with the part where one guy goes on all fours and lets the other guy grab him from behind? :lol

I can't say that I follow the sport regularly, but I've enjoyed the hell out of the Greco-Roman today and the Judo that was on last week.

I really like it when you see what a suplex looks like when it's unassisted, and not choreographed. It is amazing.

Oh, and the thing on all fours is called the clinch, and yes it makes me a little uneasy. I keep trying to find a way to refer to it without calling them a top and a bottom.

Yep. I don't know about the other posters but its one of those things where, if you don't know whats going on you will think its boring. (not saying they don't know..)
Its like if you watch UFC, and they get on the ground and are grappling.. after a while the crowd boos because MOST of them have no idea what is going on.

It took me a wikipedia search and 3 matches before I figured it out. I'm still not sure about the difference between the types of throws/takedowns (what's a 1 pt vs a 2 point throw) but it isn't particularly hard.

I don't even understand it, so enjoying it is a little impossible. I find it boring on the whole. However, I do respect it for the fact that it is the legitimate form of wrestling competition and for the skills involved which are pro-wrestling applicable.

I don't follow it, but I enjoy it. I might be biased because I'll be wrestling this upcoming year, but I still like to watch it when it's on.

I have found that any sport is hard to understand when you are relativly new to it. The best way to understand it is to actually participate. However it seems that wrestling on the Olympic level is a different animal than American High School wrestling.

I watched pro wrestling as a kid and ametuer wrestling confussed me until I joined a team when I was 13. I wrestled for years and still find myself wondering about the Olympic rules.

BTW I wrestled heavyweight for my last two years in high school. My last match was agaianst a guy some of you might remember Bubba Miller, who was a three time state champion in Tennessee and former center in the NFL for the Redskins and Eagles.....he pinned me in 37 seconds. 15 of which was me slowley backing away
