Gail Kim had two WWE runs. Neither being particularly memorable. She did win the Women's Championship on her very first run... but after that she didn't achieve anything noteworthy in the company again. And even her reign as champion wasn't particularly memorable either.

WWE and its "women's revolution" wasn't a thing until recent years, but it's not like their women's division was that bad in the first decade of the century. It had wrestlers like Trish, Lita, Molly Holly, Victoria, Beth Phoenix, Mickie James and, ofc, Gail Kim there at some point. Plus, Trish and Lita main evented raw one time in 2004. So I don't see why Gail Kim couldn't have had a good first run in the company.

Her second run was just strange. She came back at a time where women's wrestling was at its lowest point ever in WWE. Makes you wonder why they even bothered signing her. So that she could make out with Daniel Bryan in a a segment?

Anyway, clearly going to TNA was the best thing for Gail's career. So it turned out for the best for her in the end. I don't think WWE lost much money by not using her properly, but maybe some of you might disagree. This is a discussion forum after all!

Thoughts?

I don't think you can drop the ball on anyone during an era where they didn't really care about the division anyway.

They cared about Trish and Lita.

Jim Ross said Vince never saw anything In Gail Kim, so it ended before it began.

I guess she never tickled his pink.
Ah the exchange where JR mentioned Asian porn to Vince lmao

I thought she was one of the best during both of her runs, so I'd say yes. She would have fit in much more nowadays.
Yes, perhaps she needed to have been born a decade later.

But she built a legendary career for herself at TNA. If she had achieved that at WWE she'd sell more DVDs and be more famous worldwide but oh well.

If she was born a decade later she would have been a fixture of WWE over the past six years. Unfortunately, only serious wrestling fans like us and the handful of people who really liked TNA back then will remember how great she was in that promotion. But she was a real bright spot on a show that rarely lived up to its potential.

Gail is a Workrate queen and pretty damn sexy to boot but she's lacking considerably in other departments like Promo talent and Character control to really resonate with the general audience, Vince I've heard didn't think she was attractive let alone talented enough.

Yes and No. Gail was really talented in the ring, so that´s wasted. But at the same time, her in-ring talent was really all she had going for her in a time where looking sexy was more important than how good the women were. She looked good, but wanted to be judge solely on her wrestling, which was of secondary importance to WWE.

Her voice isn't that great either. She's hot, but her voice isn't exactly attractive.

Gail winning the title upon her debut during her first run probably did more harm than good. She had the workrate and a great look but not much else. Couldn't talk, couldn't emote and didn't really feel like a star alongside the likes of Trish, Lita, Victoria, Stacy, etc. It was pretty much downhill for her from there. So they turn her heel and she quickly ends up a sidekick/lackey for Molly Holly.

Her second run suffered a similar sort of fate. She could work circles around Maryse, Kelly Kelly, Rosa, etc, in the ring but again was incredibly wooden and non-charismatic.

I enjoyed her first run better than her second run. she was able to do a hurricanrana which that alone made her better than 90% of the women's roster at that time.

imo, she started the women's revolution (not Charlotte or the 4-horse women). TNA's women's division was years ahead of WWE.

Sasha and Bayley have been able to get by and their promos are awful most of the time.

Gail Kim was pushed harder than any woman in history, was given the women's title on her debut over the lives of Trish, Lita, Molly Holly, Victoria, etc, even Paige winning the belt her first night pales in comparison due to starpower.

Yet she dropped the ball, she didn't have character or mic skills and that simply won't work in the days when we still had women stars like Trish and Lita.

She has no right to complain. they pushed her as hard as they could, she didn't hold up her end of the work.

I see your point. But sometimes starting a title reign out with a bang is actually doing the wrestler a disservice. Gail Kim never was given a character; she was simply the Asian girl who won the title on her first night. Paige got away with it because she had a lot of charisma and people thought she hot in a unique way.

Another example of this was having Sheamus beat Daniel Bryan in 18 seconds for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 28. On the surface you could say they gave Sheamus everything on a silver platter. Take a closer look and I think they made Sheamus' title reign begin on an unpopular gimmicky finish.

No, she is an angry bitter nobody that misses her 15 minutes of fame therfore tries to bury WWE every chance she gets. What she doesn't understand is that the majority couldn't care less about women's wrestling.

In terms of using her to her fullest potential as a wrestler you could say that they dropped the ball but they weren't ready to go all in on workrate for the women's division so as much as it retrospectively seems like a missed opportunity it probably worked out in Gail's favour in the long run. She got to go somewhere where she would become one of the focal points of their women's roster while made use of her greatest attributes.

Not really. I think WWE made the right choice to build around Mickie and then Beth as the 'in-ring ability' bait wrestlers while promoting the Divas pin-up style wrestlers alongside them.
