Did we ever find out why (old) Nexus got involved in the Buried Alive match?

It's been a while now, but was there ever any reason given for Nexus interfering in the Buried Alive match between Kane and 'Taker?

The New Nexus buggering around with Orton vs Miz reminded me of it and I realised there didn't seem to be any apparent reason for it. Have I missed the end of the angle or did it get forgotten about? Were they just being dicks?

They didn't want Undertaker to lose clean (well, relatively clean) to Kane 3 times on the run, so threw Nexus in to interfere, went on to say it was part of the Bigger Picture, which nothing ever came of.

Pretty much this, although I still hold a little hope for this bigger plan coming together.
