Datto's thoughts:

  • Gunplay is very similar to D1, it was 'barely touched' n terms of changes. This is a good thing.
  • Weapons slots are now Primary, Energy, and Power. Energy slot contains sidearms and submachineguns. Snipers, shotguns, fusions, grenade launchers, and rockets are all Power weapons (aka Heavys). So you have 2 primary weapons and a Power weapon.
  • Subclasses were modified a bit. Ex Striker titan now has a roaming FoH with a suncharge-esque ability. Core of subclass experience for returning subclasses hasn't changed a lot, but they are different. Each class has a 3rd ability, like a shield or a health regen buff.
  • Int, Dis, Str are replaced with Armor, Agility, Recovery. This means a flat recharge rate for abilities. He likes this change for PvP, not PvE. Armor, Agility and Recover appear to have replaced the stats on armor for the time being.
  • Strike was probably the best strike experience Bungie has ever put out. That being said, it is still familiar to the normal strike format, but not many risks taken in designing it. Area and mechanics were a lot of fun. He will talk about this in depth in another vid.
  • He was not allowed to record the campaign, but it was the same as what was shown in the reveal. If all missions are as cool as the first, the story should be very good.
  • PvP - All game modes 4v4. Countdown = Search and Destroy. 4 revives per round per team. Power ammo spawns 30 seconds in. Only 1 person can get it. Game will tell you where it was pulled, who pulled it, and for what gun, which is pretty cool. Callouts are displayed under radar. PvP in general has been slower down (ex: no titan or warlock skating). Movement is like D1 launch, where nobody knew about those tricks.
  • He generates an orb by killing a super.
  • Pvp Guns - All do less damage. Feels like health is left the same, but we have more shields. Sticky nades do not oneshot. Handcannons take 1-2 extra shots to kill than D1. Pulse rifle damage on high RoF pulses down quite a few percentage points.
  • PvP Supers - Supers are still one-shots. Energy weapons with same element type deal more damage though. Introduces interesting counterplay.
  • PvP General - Datto loves PvP. Game mode he played is slow by nature, so it is hard to say how other game modes will play. The movement speed nerf to skating was a good thing for balancing the crucible. He enjoyed the game mode, only issue was team balancing, which can be fixed in game. The game mode can snowball is teams are unbalanced.
  • PC - Did not get to record PC at all 'but OH MY LORD was it smooth'. Night and Day difference compared to console (which is locked at 30 FPS). But PS4 Pro on 4K looks gorgeous. Everything across all platforms looks much better. You will be able to refine everything in the game on PC. PC allegedly delayed launch. Game is uncapped framerate. Plays very nice on max specs. PvE and PvP feel great on PC.
  • General - If you liked Destiny 1, you'll love Destiny 2. Overall improvements to little and big things in the game. It's hard to tell if the game will have longevity from the small piece they got to play. But the launch will be infinitely better than the D1 launch. It reminded him of TTK launch, where everything felt fresh and new, but on a much grander scale. Overall, it feels like a general big improvement to the Destiny experience. *

If you're a new player that has a capable PC, I can't think of a reason not get PC unless you wanted to play with us.

In the Destiny 2 Open Beta, you'll be able to play the opening segment of the game's "cinematic story campaign", check out the three-player co-op Inverted Spire Strike, and do battle in the Crucible with two competitive multiplayer modes.

The Destiny Open Beta Early Access gets underway on 18th July, before being made available for all players from 21st July on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
