Last year, the CW’s annual Arrowverse crossover event introduced Batwoman, played by Ruby Rose. This time, the producers of the DC franchise on the CW are planning a big stunt involving one of DC’s most recognizable superheroes, Superman. Two actors who have played the Man of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh, will portray him in different time frames. The news is expected to be revealed at Comic-Con.

Both Hoechlin and Routh already are members of the Arrowverse: Hoechlin recurs as Superman on Supergirl, while Routh plays Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, a character he introduced on Arrow.

Routh, who played Superman in the 2006 Bryan Singer-directed feature Superman Returns, will portray both Clark Kent and his Legends of Tomorrow character. And as Superman, both he and Hoechlin will suit up, putting on the iconic cape.

At the TCA summer press tour, the CW announced that Kevin Conroy, the legendary voice behind Batman: The Animated Series, will portray Bruce Wayne from the future in the five-part Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover.

And for the first time, characters from Black Lightning will also be making their Arrowverse debut during the crossover, after spending several seasons operating separately from the rest of The CW's Greg Berlanti-produced superhero roster.

Getting Kevin Conroy to play Bruce Wayne? Now that’s awesome.

Actually getting caught up on some of the Arrowverse stuff I missed last season beforehand.
Does that mean we might get a live action Terry McGinnis?

And then there were three. Tom Welling is set to reprise his Smallville role as Clark Kent in the CW’s upcoming DC Arrowverse crossover, joining two other actors who have played the Man of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh that are already set to portray the character in the crossover.Arrow co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim addressed the significance of the casting.

“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it,” he said. “So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”

I never took CW's superhero shows seriously, but I might have to check this out.

Rosenbaum already said he isn't coming back and his reasons are pretty sound
He has his reasons, but I wouldn't necessarily say they are sound.

With the scope of what they're trying to do and the amount of cameos they're trying to squeeze into this event, it only makes sense they'd wait until they can confirm who's agreeing to do the project before they write a script with all these DC crossover characters.
