To lose a WC on boundaries... FML and fuck ICC... Boundaries over wickets and boundaries counting after ricochets?...

Everything seemed to go against us, it just wasn't meant to be.

Another Super over > shared > wickets.

Lol. Shared should never be in the conversation. Agreed that winning it on boundaries is pretty trash though. Throughout the tournament I've been banging on about how boring and so conservative New Zealand are, so for them to lose on that manner, kind of does back that up, but I still really felt for them as it's such a heartbreaking way to lose.

All the balls that went through England batsmen but missed the stumps, all the inside edges that missed the stumps, Boult catching Stokes out but then stepping onto the boundary to make it a 6, the ball ricocheting of Stoke's sliding bat to give them an extra 4 runs... Sometimes a team is just destined to win no matter what.

They had to pick something to declare a winner on in the event of 2 ties, the odds of which had to be microscopic.

What was that rule that got South Africa knocked out in a tie against Australia back in 1999? who won the last match or something? it wasn't ideal but that was the rule.

They could have gone with other logical things, like head to head record in the group stage, in which case England win. Or who finished higher in the table. England win. Or better net run rate. England win.

Anyway, it was a great game, I was glad it was over as I'd had to lie down on the living room floor by the end, my nerves couldn't take it, but it's one no one will ever forget. I do hope the Kiwis get a win in something else soon as they looked so gutted it was hard to see, please go on to win everything you can that's not against England!

Should've been on group table position or tournament NRR.

Either way it still would've been :moore

The only tie-breaker that NZ could have won off was wickets taken. It's how we do it in grade cricket here.

NZ were just mighty unlucky. Stokes caught on the fence and the NZ fielder puts his foot on the rope before throwing it in. The deflection off the bat. The last shot, he hit it fast and straight to Roy. A little bit either side and he makes the 2 runs for NZ to win.

It was an amazing contest as a final. Very competitive tournament all around.

Wickets was more logical than any of those and it would be counting back the Final, not the group stage results.

Wickets would be so dumb. It would just put so much more importance into the coin toss which is already such an important piece of luck involved in the game.

And you really think England would send Jofra Archer out with the green light if they know wickets might make a difference?
