It's all over twitter. Needless to say I won't even describe what the image is but you would think Cornette would have learnt a lesson from the NWA firing? It was because of this very same reason, racism.

I thought I had seen all the hatred there was towards AEW but I can't believe people would stoop this low for relevancy? All it does is give AEW exposure but it shouldn't happen like this.

It’s only a racist thumbnail if you associate a monkey with African Americans, I would actually say the people getting upset about it are more racially motivated than Cornette himself. Your basically saying black people should never be around or photographed with monkeys or apes, which is oddly racist to associate them together unless you beleive they look similar which would in turn make you the racist.

Travis only draws artwork out of things that Jim says. He doesn't just decide "I think I'll compare a black person to an ape" (which isn't even what he was doing), he gets the clip and Jim says something that he thinks he can make a thumbnail of that pertains to the video and then he'll make it.

The ape is a reference to the movie "Mighty Joe Young". He off handedly compared Fletcher, the white guy, not Swerve, to Mighty Joe Young for some reason, so Travis drew Jim as a gorilla, so now everybody thinks it's racist to portray Jim as a gorilla because Swerve was in the thumbnail and they don't care that it wasn't Swerve when you explain it to them. They will not have it, they are determined to say that no image of an ape can be around a black person even if the reference has literally nothing to do with them. Then, perhaps even more ridiculous was the Q-Tip controversy where he called Fletcher, again, the white guy, not Swerve, "A Q-Tip with arms and legs" pointing out how skinny he was, so Travis drew him as a Q-Tip and then everybody started going off about black people and cotton.....

It's just people from the Wade Keller school of perpetual offense. They're looking for excuses to be offended.

I don't find it racist at at all. Tacky and distasteful? Yes. I actually listened to that video and all he wanted was to see Swerve opening up the show talking about his victory over Samoa Joe. That is it. Not go into match getting his ass kicked for about more than half of it to a guy that already got his ass kicked by Will. Is this the new trend now?

If you think that's racist, YOU are racist. You saw Jim as a Gorilla and thought that resembled Swerve or that black people next to Apes aren't allowed as they look too much like apes so it they can't be seen together or everyone will notice. Only a racist would do that. Black people saw a Gorilla and swerve. You saw swerve and an animal resembling swerve. YOU are racist. I demand an apology as a black man. I'm highly offended and feel unsafe having racists on this forum so blatantly showing their racial bias. This is an inclusive forum, please reflect on your subconscious racism and be humble and apologize.

Or even worse you know it's not racist and you're using racism which is a SERIOUS ISSUE and are gaslighting it and using it in vain for your dislike of a person. Who are you to cry wolf on behalf of a race that you don't belong to for your petty reasons.

Apologize either way.

Jim's a douche, but if you're scrolling it does make you do a double take passing by said thumbnail. Probably not the best choice there without context.

Y’all really like telling on yourselves, don’t you? It’s always the “virtuous” ones that wind up being the bigoted ones. And your intentions aren’t even pure. He bullies your favorite promotion and this is just a means to an end to cancel him. It’s not about standing up for us at all. And in the end, it’s a dumb as fuck approach because all you’re doing is appealing to the people who already hate Cornette and if anything, you’re just giving him more sympathy with this obvious horseshit. Ironically, Tony Khan did the exact same thing with Punk and look at the mess the company’s in now.

The full context is that the artwork (mostly by artist, Travis Heckel) is taken from a quote or scenario in each video spelled out by Jim Cornette or Brian Last.

The Q-tip is meant to represent Kyle Fletcher, who Jim thinks is too skinny, a point Brian argued against as Fletcher is bigger than before.

The Gorilla (drawn to resemble Jim Cornette) is a reference to the 1998 movie Mighty Joe Young, and it doesn’t matter if you’re big or small, and can do all the moves, if you’re booked badly and not presented as a threat, it devalues the champion if the match is competitive.

The actual argument was that Swerve was badly served by how he was booked on Dynamite, from not opening the show to his match.

When I saw the artwork, I knew I had to watch the video and hear what was said, as even I (a black guy born in the 80’s, and not overly-PC) did a double take.

But it’s not nearly as serious as Twitter is trying to make it, in my opinion.

I do anticipate they are going to address it on a future podcast.

Within 2 minutes, Cornette says he doesn't care if Mighty Joe Young is facing the world champion if he's presented suboptimally. He compared Kyle Fletcher to the wet Q-Tip. He himself is portrayed as Mighty Joe Young, not Swerve, which means there is no racial implication of comparing him to a gorilla because he's Black. Please close this nonsense @CM Buck.

AEW fans pretending to give a fuck about black people will never not be funny. AEW went years without having a black person in a single's match on PPV and none of you gave a fuck.

Please don't cry for us. We will never forget how you people treated Swole and all took pleasure in joining Tiny as he mocked her. She was no worse than any of the white or Japanese women on Dynamite but dared to make the mistake of being the wrong colour. So Tiny was right to do what he did apparently.

There was nothing racist about what Cornette said or about the image yet today all over Twitter I'm seeing white AEW marks telling me how angry I should feel about it.
