Hey fellow fans

i heard Cody is facing Lewy Kestrel or something?

who is dis guy even and what is the story??

i’m interested in finding out more about this epic rivalry, but I’m a little too tired to google

can someone fill me in on the Shakespeare like tale that got us to this anticipated match?

Pretty bad when CAWdy Rhodes is going to beat a guy with more talent and charisma than he has, even with a terrible name like Ludwig Kaiser, weeks before the worst Mania main event of all time.

Maybe with Pete Dunne getting his name back we will get the return of "Marcel Barthel" also. Every time I see or hear "Ludwig" I think of Ludvig Borga. Although I like how Samantha says Ludwig Kaiser. lol

Anyway, this is just a random match. No history.

I prefer his name as Ludwig Kaiser over that shit you just said. Marcel without the Barthel would be fine too. One name and that being “Kaiser” would be the best option.

It will surprise you, but I actually agree with the general point you're making. The criticism towards TV matches not having stories and build is overblown because there's never been an era in wrestling where TV matches have had stories, and it wouldn't even be feasible. In kayfabe, you're battling over rankings and the winner's money and shit like that. It'd be nice if they said it more on commentary, though. Although I also think guys like Cody shouldn't be having throwaway TV matches, especially not during the build to Mania. In kayfabe, Cody already has his ticket to Mania - both Cody himself as well as the promoter would be best served in kayfabe to keep Cody from getting injured prior to WrestleMania.

There is a big difference.

In WWE, Ludwig is a current performer. People may not know him by name, but at least he's recognizable to the audience. They know he's Gunther's sidekick. WWE isn't hyping this up as a big deal, it's Uncle Dave. Whereas in AEW, instead of using their current performers, they take TV time away from them to fulfill Khan's dream-match booking fantasy of having a random Japanese or Mexican guy come in one week, and not be heard of again for a long time.

Not surprised that an indy fan wouldn't know about the concept of building up a talent with squash ( although, sadly that term died because then, fans would complain they aren't good enough ) matches which is one of the foundations of how you build a successful wrestling story.

Haven't you heard? It's Cody's first singles match in 1.5 years against a talent that's never been seen before on WWE TV. It's a throwaway/likely squash match against a signed jobber on weekly television, to build a star for the headline match of the biggest PPV card of the year. Still more depth and better booking than Mexican Viking versus Monsieur Olivier 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Ludwig was actually really big in Chita Japan for the promotion "Japanese Wrestling Heros and friends"

Cody and him locked eyes a few times during the Ebaumsworld PPV in 2015 and everyone is quite interested in this historic dream match between these long time rivals. THIS is the long term storytelling we've all dreamed of and I'm sure these two will have a banger this week just like they did back in 2013 at "Yakuza: CAGED HEAT"

Why did Cody face Chad Gable or LA knight the past couple of weeks? So that fans can see him in action against other quality performers. This also may be the first seed planted in an eventual Imperium feud down the line.

He’ll have the match, then do a promo or have an interaction after that reminds us of the bigger issue.
