It is. Sure Rhea Ripley is TALENTED as hell and the NXT Womens Title deserves to be on the Mania card but it is a demotion lets be honest.
If Charlotte wins, what happens next? Does She stay in NXT and defend the title there? If so, that is a serious demotion.

Thoughts?

Eh. Becky's probably wrestling Shayna, so both are wrestling NXT people.

They're trying to make NXT look equal to the main roster and be more of a draw with audiences.

It won't work though.

Also, even if Charlotte wins she can easily drop it 3 days later in a multiwomen scramble on NXT. Remember this is Charlotte "15 second reigns" Flair we are talking about here.

If Charlie wins, you're stopping Rhea's momentum flat, on the other hand, if Charlie loses, you just had your rumble winner lose to your NXT champ. Leave it to WWE to put themselves in such a no win situation

I could see them thinking that they built up Rhea so much, that the only person "worthy" to beat her is Charlotte, instead of some NXT woman.

Naa she absolutely has to lose with the "eyeroll" respect hand shake at the end. If not, people won't ever take NXT seriously ever again and they might as well just put NXT back on the network. Maybe they add Bianca in to protect them both, but even that would be transparent at this point.

They can have Charlotte beat Rhea and Becky lose to Shayna to even it out.

Even if NXT went over both, I doubt it would do anything for NXT anyway. The WWE is at at a point now where literally nothing matters. They have an 11 time champ or something in Charlotte challenging the hot new thang in Rhea and basically still very few people outside of people who follow NXT care about this match THAT much.

If NXT winning at Survivor Series didn't do anything for it, Rhea and Shayna winning won't do anything either.

Compared to main eventing the show last year, yes, but it's still a singles title match at Wrestlemania. That's more than most women get. No doubt it'll also get more promotion than the Smackdown women's title. Maybe even Becky's match too.

It's the best option they have.
Because for some reason, she had to win the Rumble this year. (We know if Survivor Series went as planned in 2018, she would have won last year). People don't want to see her vs Becky again. (Can't even think of someone on Raw that's exciting). People don't want to see her vs Bayley again. (Clash of Champions, HIAC and then that Smackdown. If they wanted a big shock, maybe Naomi could work).
Charlotte challenging (and putting over!) Rhea and/or Bianca is the only decent choice.
I guess because she wants ~all~ the gold, they could swerve and have her challenge for the tag team titles.

And? There's a saying, "the title doesn't make the man, the man makes the title" (just replace man with woman). WWE should want to send Charlotte to NXT as champ to bring viewership.

That doesn't mean she can only be on NXT. She can go to Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, all as NXT champ. If you're such a big deal that WWE thinks you will bring in ratings, bring eyes to your product, then you're incredibly valuable.

They're not going to pay her less. Therefore, not a demotion.

And, that's if she wins. We don't know she will.

No, NXT is on par with RAW & SD and offers the best show of the 3. It ain't some demotion when you're challenging the champion of the A Show, unlike challenging the C Show champion on RAW.

Sorry, but NXT is the development brand, the contracts are entry level. Did Rhea get commission when she appeared on Raw? No. This isn't about Flair challenging Rhea. The whole storyline is forced and has backstage politics written all over it an an attempt to win Wednesday nights. Flair, Balor on NXT isn't helping.

Very well said.

Then they could have picked someone else to win RR. It's a forced storyline for Wednesday nights to have a main roster talent win the RR and then challenge for the entry level title in development. You don't see NHL players being awarded MVP and then demanding to be sent down to the AHL affiliate and help that team win the Calder Cup even though they've won it before.

Sorry, but having your RR winner (MVP) being forced in a storyline due to backstage politics surrounding Wednesday nights is a demotion as its the entry level title in development (NXT). Not many care about development for women's wrestling. Viewership for the most part reflected that last night when their ratings came out.

It is a demotion. If she's facing someone from NXT, than somebody else should have won the Rumble.
Very well said, couldn't agree more.

I'm afraid this is worse than a demotion, it's disorganized.

It is not a demotion if you ask me. Its Vince and Triple who in their infinite wisdom probably thinking this will give a ratings boost to NXT...Next they will probably put Roman there for a feud or so..

the storyline is of course stupid. You win Royal Rumble, you technically get a shot at the main event the main title at wrestlemania..Here NXT title, really?? At least someone else could have won instead and they could have built to this match some other way....
