With the hand wringing, whining anti-firearms crowd constantly attacking the 2nd Amendment, I thought that it would be appropriate to start a thread where CCP holders and firearms enthusiasts could discuss our interest.

To start things off I have created a poll to find out which brand of handgun is preferred by our list members. Originally, I was going to create a poll for the favorite individual handgun, but that would have been too long of a list and, inevitably, some weapons would be inadvertently omitted.

I am sure that our thread will be the subject of attack by the liberal/SJW anti-gun crowd. My suggestion is to let them post, but ignore them and just continue discussing our interest. There are plenty of other threads where we can debate them. Let’s make this a thread where law abiding gun owners can gather without paying attention to the liberals/SJWs who will inevitably appear and attempt to sabotage the thread.

Well after my grandfather passed his guns went to my dad, my dad passed and grandfather and dad's guns willed to me.

So I've got a small army of shotguns, 12, 16, 20 gauges, rifles .308, .30-.30, .30-06.
The Marlin "Golden 50" collectors .30-.30 I've shown before is one of my pride and joy, was made in late 70s during Marlin's 50 year anniversary, so it has gold plated trigger and gold bead sight. And "Golden 50" etched on barrel.

Those mainly came from grandfather except the Mossberg 12, .30-.30, and .308 were dad's hunting guns.

He's killed hundreds of deer with that Marlin .30-.30 but as he got older in his 60s, he couldn't take the kick anymore, and even me 6'4 it kicks like a mule, but surprisingly extremely accurate.
My dad bought .308 from a friend of his uses very similar bullet that my SKS uses a 7.62x51 bullet. But the 308 has no real kick, so it became my dad's main hunting rifle
Passed down from grandfather is a beautiful "I always called it dirty Harry gun" but a near mirrored nickel plated Smith and Wesson 357 revolver. I have it in a display mount its too pretty to hide.

Guns I've bought myself

Russian SKS, AR-15 3 extra long 50 round mags. 2 mags are connected opposite , so when 1 mag empties, flip upside down and keep going :p
Extended mags are legal here, can even order online to this state.

For home defense a kinda shitty cheaper Jaton 9mm semiautomatic.
About 2000+ rounds of ammo in closet. And 2 gun cabinets that were passed down.

I recently bought a double barrel breach load .410 shotgun at pawn shop for my 17 year old. He's had 3 diamond back rattlers cross his apartment front last summer, they are open season here and at "Rattlesnake roundup" they pay anywhere from $3 to $8 a foot for rattlesnake. So now he gets a free bit of gas when one of those fuckers appear. Plus his neighbor has young kids that play outside, and one nearly got bit thinking she was gonna go up and look at it, but luckily my son had went outside and saw it in time, yelled at her to dont! Which got her mom's attention and grabbed her. My son only had a pellet gun at time, so i figured a .410 is plenty and small, zero kick and great first shotgun. And shells are extremely cheap. They are very overpopulated here, mainly since we near the most famous swamp in US ;-) plus his neighbor had nothing so he needs something better than a damn pellet gun.

When I pass my son gets all this and a few more I haven't mentioned, gotta keep some a mystery ;-)

But he jokes I need to hurry up, he wants his great grandfather's nickel plated .357 revolver very very badly. Since he was 12.

I haven't gave any hints, but on his 21st birthday I'm giving it to him.

It's really commendable that you have introduced your son to firearms and instructed him on safety at a young age before the SJWs and anti-gun crowd could get to him.

I began instructing my son on how to shoot when he was around 11 or 12. We started with my S&W model 65 .357 magnum revolver. Naturally, we used .38 cal rounds, NOT magnum rounds which would have been too much for the kid to handle. I figured a revolver would be the safest bet for a young beginner. Semi-auto handguns can be problematic for a kid.

His first rifle was a Soviet Mosin M44 with folding spike bayonet that I got him for his 14th birthday. Luckily, he was always a big, strong kid, because that rifle uses a powerful 7.62x54R round and has the kick of a mule!

If you can, please post a photo of your Russian SKS. I have a Yugoslavian SKS made at the Zastava Factory in Serbia. (See photo posted below.)

For those unfamiliar with the SKS it was made obsolete almost from the day it came out by the AK-47. The permanent box magazine carries 10 rounds and has to be reloaded by hand while the AK fires with a removable 30 or 40 round mag that can be removed and replaced in two seconds.

The SKS can be modified by removing the box mag and replacing it with AK style high-cap mags. I've never done this, but I've heard that it can be problematic with jamming issues.

The Russian and Byelorussian militaries still carry the SKS for ceremonies on holidays.

Taurus is great bang for the buck. Historically I love Colt for obvious reasons, but today I like Sig and Springfield. Soft spot for Bersa too.

Really I love em all for their own reason!

I like the Colt Defender for an easy small weapon

They are also rather expensive and I am a horrible shot so my word is not worth a ton
The Colt Defender is a top of the line handgun. You can't go wrong with anything manufactured by COLT.

However, in my opinion, for personal protection it lacks the knockdown power needed and the mag only holds 7 rounds. If you are going to opt for a semi-auto pistol rather than a revolver I would think you would want a weapon with more capacity. This one is a last resort back up piece that I would carry in my ankle holster.

The Defender goes for around $900. For a little more than half that price you can get a GLOCK model 22, .40 cal or a S&W M&P, .40 cal. These guns are not that much bigger that the Defender and because of their shape and construction they are easily concealable. When in a holster on your belt they hug the body and are not visible through your clothes.

Both of these .40 cal weapons have the knockdown power that you need and can hold 16 rounds (15 in the mag and 1 in the chamber).

The main difference between them is that the GLOCK has the European style grips that kind of angle out. The S&W M&P grips are built more at a right angle (like a 1911). I prefer the European style feel of the GLOCK grips.

But, since that is very subjective you should handle and fire both weapons before making a decision on which one to buy.

Daisy isn't on the list? Yup, my gun of choice is a single shot, pump action, .177 pellet gun. 10 pumps and it could break skin!

In all seriousness though, I don't have a CCP or own any actual firearms and don't know if I ever will due to various vision problems, shaky hands and other crap that may cause me to do more harm than good, but I'm still a supporter of responsible people who CCW.

I like that Colt has has the hand grips and the beavertail as default

The defender seems like it was designed for comfort, even less experienced shooters and I have small hands so compacts are better for me

I feel a lot of hand gun designers are so obsessed with "stuff" that the forget someone has to hold the thing

Many handguns that are great on paper are just so damn big and bulky (H&K)

Where's the love for Remington? That's been my brand of choice. I have a R51 and 1911 R1 for handguns...the R51 is a pretty compact and small gun which is easy to handle.

My hunting rifles are also Remington...Bolt Action Models 770 and 783. My son went hunting with me for the first time this year (he's 13). I made him take all the required hunting and gun safety classes before we went. He was a little reluctant at first, he has a couple of friends whose dads hunt but they didn't take some of the classes. I told him that that's why I won't hunt with them and I won't take him without his taking them. He didn't bag anything but he has a respect for firearms and what they can do.

I am a gun owner, but my problem is this. Why do so many gun owners think their rights are being taken away? Last time I checked Obama has not knocked on my door asking for any of my firearms. Gun owners in America are not under fire (no pun intended). I just wish more gun owners would make that clear. I love my guns and I am glad my country allows me to own them.

Because a massive portion of the country is actively working to take them away. Thank God they have not succeeded yet.

This may sound cliche, but the best part about hunting for me was being out in the field in the cold fresh air of Autumn. I loved being in the woods in the fall with the snow crunching underfoot and the anticipation of seeing a deer building up as the morning wore on. Bagging a deer is great, but it's just icing on the cake.

In the evening we would go to town where there was always a poker game going on at one of the gin mills. It was nice to be in a warm place playing cards and shooting the breeze with the guys after being out in the cold all day.

When the libturds and SJWs start whining about hunting I just have to shake my head. For the hunter it's so much more than just shooting a deer and is, in fact, assisting conservation by culling the herd. I'm originally a city boy, but was introduced to the country and learned to respect nature, wildlife, and guns.

Your son is lucky to have a dad like you!

- Mike

P.S. Sorry about leaving Remington out. My bad!

My hunting rifle of choice was the Model 37, 12 gauge, Ithaca Deerslayer slug gun. I regret having sold mine years ago.

They aren't BEING taken away but there are a lot of people that want to take them away. The media kept on talking about "responsible gun control like Australia" after Obama said that but if you look at what Australia did, it was a massive confiscation. Just because they aren't openly talking about confiscation doesn't mean they don't want it they just hide it in other phrases because they know they can't actually achieve confiscation by calling it what it is.

And then you have other places like New York city or Washington D.C. where it's almost impossible to get a CCP.

The only time that I have ever been around and handled a firearm was during my military service. I have never owned a firearm. However, although guns are not my cup of tea- I am a strong supporter of a person's 2nd Amendment Right.

Because they're paranoid and deranged old relics that were born 60 years ago and are going through the usual symptoms the mentally ill get when off their meds.
