They gave it to Cena so that him and Punk could have a match at RAW 1000 for the title...but since it was the 1000th episode of RAW, why didn't they just announce Punk vs. Cena in the main event for the title? Why waste the briefcase on a match that could have just been announced by Vince? I always thought the main point of the briefcase was the shock value it brought when someone cashed it in when the champion was down.

Yeah, worst MITB match to date as well, Cena won taking no bumps.. was the poorest "lets protect Cena" waste of a headlining match over the WWE title, fucking joke.

Ruining what is usually one of the match of the year contenders. The cash in fiasco just solidified this point for me.

It was ruined when it was announced that it would all be former World Champions in the actual match. For me, that ruined the point of MITB (dat lazyman's booking of an up and comer).

But yeah, Cena didn't need to win it, but it was another thing to add to his CV of achievements I suppose. It would have been interesting if Cena had held onto the briefcase for a bit, rather than rushing the cash-in just so he can get a title match on Raw 1000.

They wanted to change up the formula of the whole cashing in concept. I think it was a decent change instead of the same old crap where some new guy cashes in at the end of a match. Also, Cena was the first to fail the cash in, so it really doesn't bother me.

Edit: But, the Raw money in the Bank ladder match shouldn't have been the main event. That is just fucking stupid booking on Creative's part. A match for a chance at the WWE title main evented over the actual match for the WWE championship? Where is the logic in that? -___-

They sort of wasted it, though I think their plan all along was to give it to Cena and have him be the first to fail the cash-in because they knew he could handle it easily and still be over and now the odds are not 100% that if you win MITB you will win the title.

I like this in a way since I think we all can agree if they screwed over a young guy on his rise to the top instead it would have pissed us all off to no end. They ruined it it this year yes, but they ruined it for a reason.

Why build up a new star when you can give it to the one guy that didn’t need it?

On a serious note, I believe the WWE just didn’t have enough faith in any of their mid card babyfaces. They’ve given one to a mid card heel and the other to a mid card face every year since it became a pay per view.

There's always next year, they didnt ruin it.

Yes it was a lame decision, but honestly WHO ELSE could've won the damn thing who's currently active, relevant, deserved it, hasnt won it before, done something significant that Creative can build up on and who people could've seen as a legitimate WWE champion in just a short amount of time.

Drawings blanks?

Just let it go, it was quietly swept under the rug. Now you can focus on Dolph.

They didn't ruin it, the built up loads of hype for Raw 1000 and I was sure that Cena was going to win...I was wrong. WWE did well in my opinion in terms of the treatment of the case itself, that night. In hindsight the case should have been re-awarded back to Cena because the way which the match ended was fraudulent.

How many guys have really benefitted from MITB anyway? Not many tbh. While I don't think Cena should have won at least it was different and offered a different ending than the typical run and cash in. Plus it ended the whole
100% cash in thing.

Could've been a nice little push for Kofi who's been doing nothing for like 3 years, or put Cody in the RAW one so he could get a nice push, or hmmm.. Jericho, so he could win it, take the briefcase on Tour with Fozzy and build up his cash in.

Kofi who's been in tag/mid-card limbo for years? Santino has a better chance at getting a title shot.

Cody who hasnt done anything since losing that IC belt.

Jericho.....really?
