Okay, just so we can all be on the same page..

In an era of "smart" fans, what does cheap heat mean and how does a wrestler go about getting actual heat in an era where we know what they're doing is completely scripted?

I'm only asking because the terms really only ever gets used for people who wrestling fans genuinely don't like, which I would argue that cheap heat ironically just became regular heat and the way to work a smark is by feeding into what they already know about the business.........

But someone please explain what the term cheap heat means to them in 2018.

Keep in mind I am completely aware of what the term meant prior to 2005-2008.

You know how Mick Foley always mentions the name of the town he is in and gets cheers. It's the opposite of that. Just easy crap ensure that a crowd reacts negatively. Usually mocking a city or state or a local sports team nothing to do with one's character or anything else just garbage

In terms of the super smart fans I'd say shit like Cena's heel turn promo, Reigns "I'm the guy like it or not", Nia going on and on about breaking Becky's face works on a regular level and on a cheap heat level as it surely works up crowds, Corbin insulting folk for working bingo halls, Punk calling out fans that stalk him and ask him to sign merch they're going to sell on eBay.

That's the type of shit at least to me would be cheap heat aimed at our part of the fan base.

The only way to get heat in 2018 without being a heavily pushed babyface or noticeably untalented?

My personal definition of cheap heat is a statement or promo that will illicit a negative response with no creative thought, storytelling or aged aspects.

Basically done spur of the moment with little to no thought or time put behind the decision
