edit> one of the few wrestlers for me sitting in that matt hardy, jeff jarrett, jay white pool of could not give 2 fucks about - opinions on if he stays or goes?
Ambivalent if he goes but I do think he's had a nice little renaissance after disappearing to the indies for a year. Wouldn't really be missed but at the same time he's a useful guy to have.
He is still 1/3 of the ROH World Six Man Champions so that will have to be addressed if he is leaving.
Fightful says there have been 'feelers within WWE that have gauged the company's interest in bringing in Cage'.
Cage had a strong start to his AEW career, winning the Casino Ladder match on debut, the FTW belt run, Taz as his manager, squashing opponents and those excellent Taz 'sports presentation' segments detailing his move-set - he was presented, successfully imo, as a big deal. Then Taz threw the towel in against Mox, he was overshadowed by a guy half his size in Starks, the live crowds rejected attempts to push him as a face and his Chatty Kathy wife publicly criticised his booking.
Giving Cage a clean win over Hangman, which went nowhere for him, highlights how directionless his booking became.
I feel like Cage would be great in Japan. He's definitely better than some of the muscled up gaijin that have made it big over there. Like he's better than Prince Albert and The Good Bros. He's definitely better than Fake Sting or Scott Norton
Unfortunately for a guy that looks like that, nobody told him to work how he looks. Could have been a beast. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
He just doesn't connect with the crowd like he should be able to, having a great look and move set but no in ring psychology and poor promo skills makes it hard to get invested in him. He should go back to Impact if he isn't gone just take the easy path and resign for another year and try his luck in ROH and AEW as a occasional monster to slay/job out.
What a waste of a talent this guy has been, went from being prominently featured on AEW, looked to be in a good spot and then they just stopped using him because they got more flippy indie guys.
He’s a decent Ishii-tier midcard gatekeeper. Not somebody I’d get sad about leaving. The only time he ever stood out for me was early Lucha Underground.
