the best there is the best there was and the best there ever will be. The Excellence of Execution. The "Hitman". When your that good in the ring technically and psychologically you don't need jersey shore gimmick to get over

Just a badass, I guess. Can't really call a pussy a hit man, right? Would calling a wimp 'hit man" be the same as calling a fat guy "slim"? *shrugs*

One of the first wrestlers to use his real name in the ring, he was actually named Buddy the hearthrob hart when he worked for the crockett's promotion.

Homosexual cyborg.

Either that, or just an old fashioned technical pro. His schtick always seemed to be that he had something to prove; like he constantly had a chip on his shoulder about being smaller than a lot of the guys, or from a different country, or not being as flashy. He started off with a noble underdog kind of gimmick and ended up being with a bitter, jaded, ego-maniacal crybaby gimmick.

His family heritage played a large part of his gimmick. Being Stu Hart's son, they made a big deal about his role in the Hart dynasty. He was supposed to be this special kind of grappler who'd learned his trade in the infamous dungeon and had a counter hold for everything you could do.

Bret Hart was one of those wrestlers that got over by being himself and never needed a gimmick character in order to do so. This is to an extent why Bret Hart became such a mark for himself because to him a lot of what he portrayed on screen was him being himself and it all became very real as he struggled to separate on screen and off screen. If there was any kind of gimmick character then it was simply that of a great wrestling technician who would do what was right and stood up for what was right.

He was just a normal wrestler who wrestled. No gimmicks.

Bret was above having a gimmick, he gave himself those sharp pink tights and away he went. Later on in his career he became a whining heel but he could back it up with his stellar in ring performances.
