Bobby Lashley dropped by D-Von Dudley's podcast, Table Talk, where he and D-Von got to catch up and answer questions from fans. One question asked if a match between Lashley and Brock Lesnar will ever happen. Lashley has wanted a match with Lesnar for quite some time, and he said that now is a good time with how his character has developed as of late.

"When I first started, people were saying, 'oh, that's the Black Lesnar.' No, but I understand you have to have some kind of comparison because we kind of had similar careers," Lashley noted. "I think it's something that needs to happen. I was told, at one point in time, 'this is Brock. You're not at his level yet.' I haven't really talked about it with Vince or anybody, but I think at one point in time, there was talk about teasing it and see where it would go.

"At the time, he was in a feud with Roman [Reigns] and Seth [Rollins] was coming in behind him. They already had things lined up for him. I think if there's any time, it's now. I think now is a good time. I've gotten through with all the paying dues with all the stuff that I've done since I've been back, and I think my character is starting to develop a little bit more to being who I am. I get to fight, I get to beat people up and I don't have to lay down for guys that are 100 lbs. less than me that shouldn't even be in the ring with me. Let's just put it that way."

Honestly, when he sells for people like Finn Balor and Sami Zayn, it looks pretty fucking dumb. I consider myself a Sami Zayn fan and a reformed hater of his, but come on.

He´s not wrong. Unless the small wrestler is as talented as a young Rey Mysterio or AJ Styles, it does hurt any big guy´s character to lose to the little guys.
There's logic in AJ Styles, though. He's a technical mat specialist, therefore, he has the tactical ability to work on limbs sufficiently enough to mitigate the size advantage. But your average small guy shouldn't have a chance, even in the make believe world of wrestling.

It depends, if a character is really over like Finn Balor was when Lashley and Balor faced each other than Balor was the obvious winner. Lashley should have been a 10 time World Champion but he just doesn't have the charisma.

A.J. is "smaller" but I wouldn't call him small because he is very well-built for his height which is about 5'9", I believe. Guys like Humberto Carrillo, Finn Balor and Rey Mysterio are small.

Overall though, I agree with Lashley that a lot of the smaller guys beating guys like him just isn't believable.

Absolutely true minus exceptional talent like AJ, Bryan or Seth but I did feel back in around 05-07 that he had Brock Lesnar vibes just lacking the certain phenomena appeal of the Next Big Thing, He wasn't pushed as strong as Brock he never really dominated anybody besides King Booker throughout June 2006 he was typically even matched with guys like Finlay for example who generally made Lashley look like a fool at times.

The closer resemblance to Brock was probably just his apron leap with the four corner pyro going off.

He is 100% correct. The guy is a legit heavyweight mma fighter , the only guys who can realistically have some chance vs him are guys his size like Drew, Roman, Braun etc. Even those guys will prob be demolished but at least you can suspend disbelief with them

So, should he be known as "Bobby Nashley" now?

I meant shorter, sorry. AJ does have a decent physique, although it's generally true that it's quicker to build a powerful physique if you're shorter than if you're taller, since your limbs and muscle length are proportionally smaller.

The Giant Killer/Under dog story has been done to death imo(in every company), and it's so formulatic where you add nothing to the formula. Heel: mocks size of talent, face: said how he'll beat the heel, heel: faces jobbers the size of face, face: gets attack after his match by said heel and then heel is standing tall at the end of the show. Pay off ends with the face getting the victory of the heel.

It's quite fresh when the heel is the smaller of the two, which makes it a sort of cat-and-mouse game.

Having big ass showroom muscles means you can physically manhandle people with wrestling sure, but there's no reason a guy half his size can't take him on with efficient striking.

Styles, Mysterio and Bryan have all built up the main even credibility that seeing Lashley lose to them is ok. When someone like Ali, Cedric etc beat him it’s stupid because they aren’t on that level to challenge him. It’s like Jinder winning the WWE title when he’s been a jobber his whole time.
