I'm 25 and I have had 4 jobs in my life.
When I left school I worked in a tin factory packing tins for 3 weeks. That was okay, I got £150 working 4 days a week when I was 16 until the day me and the 2 others I started with were let go. Last in, first out.
I then worked for my Dad as a ground worked. Worked there for 16 to 22, and it varied. The bad things were the travel, getting up at 6 in the morning in the middle of winter to get to work for half 7, get soaked before 8 and then have to work 9 more hours. The good things, working in Blackpool on a big chemical plant for 6 months were they always needed 2 people on-site even if there was no work. I probably worked for 2 months, the rest of the time I picked up £350 a week wages (I was on £8 an hour then, and got travel time,) and spent the time there in the van reading, listening to music, tidying out the van, having tours of the plant because we got friendly with the people who worked there and mostly just sitting round. Greatest few working months of my life, if you could call it that.
I quit because we were practically forced to work knee deep in snow in the middle of January 7-5 and my body was ceasing up at 22 and I still have bad circulation in my back now and the bottom of my back is always cold.
I then went on the dole for a few months and started work painting and decorating for minimum wage, about £450 a month, and only stuck it out for 2 weeks. In my time there I learned about all of the local hard knocks, saw Wayne Rooneys Mum going to her cleaning job every morning and on the weekend of the second week somebody got murdered outside of the site and it was closed down for weeks, so we were all let go.
I went back on the rock and roll for ages trying to find office work, nobody would touch me because I didn't have any qualifications or experience until I was asked to go on an 8 week work program. Thinking it wouldn't hurt I went on it, and I'm still there now a year later. After the 8th week I was asked to stay, and I am now Account Manager, Office Manager and Event Manager. I work in marketing and we run Networking Events, after my first day I realised I would be really good at it because I was able to do more work than the people who had been there for years. After Christmas we downsized to concentrate on other aspects, and apart from the two bosses I was the only one kept on, and now I make the choice and employ people who are on Job Seekers Allowance in a complete turnaround, and have job prospects in Indonesia and we are looking to move to Manchester and the Cheshire area over the next few weeks. I am also self-employed and sub contracted to the company so I work my own hours and do my own thing. I think apart from those 6 months in Blackpool, this is the best job I've ever had.
Haha, I got a bit carried away there!
