Hogan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guG9cVs3ms4
Warrior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMs7juOPsDw
Michaels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exbsw5ssn4I

These themes introduced the character, were original, got the crowd pumped. After matches or segments they were appropriate for celebration. They provided a great background when the commentator was talking.

These days if Randy Orton wins or comes out we hear this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDtwtGkfmMg Its to do with his character yes but like we saw on RAW last week after a big segment where Orton got the win and the stare down between Cena and Barrett - it is so dreary and terrible, this would never get a crowd worked up.

I miss theme evolution
Like how they start as instrumentals or whatever
I hate now how they pick some random and/or crappy Rock/Rap theme
I miss when they'd make a theme truly characteristic of the character
I think The Rock's theme evolution was awesome from "Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?" to "If ya smell! What The Rock...is Cooking!"
Jericho and Stone Cold they basically got it right the first time

I dont understand why people hate Ted's new theme so much. It's a terrible song, yes, but it just seems to match his douchey persona

Whether he wants that persona, i dont know, but it just seems to work for me

I'd like to add I think Randy's theme is great for interruptions and I think it's good for show endings sometimes
But the themes you posted are way better for almost all situations as You said

There are still plenty of great themes, but the biggest problem I see is simple: an over-reliance on "real" songs with lyrics.

Think about it: many of the best themes from yesteryear didn't have any lyrics at all, but struck just the right tone with the character. Steve Austin, Bret Hart/The Hart Foundation, Sycho Sid, Jake Roberts, Ultimate Warrior, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Kane, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, and others all had purely instrumental music, but the music worked because it was SUCH a perfect fit and set the appropriate mood. Compare Jake Roberts' music with Randy Orton's. If they're both supposed to be vicious, slightly unstable guys, which theme sends more of a chill up your spine?

This isn't to say that songs with lyrics CAN'T work. DX, Hulk Hogan, Edge, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, and others have all had great "real" songs that fit their characters well. It's just that when EVERYONE who's not a jobber has a "real" song for an entrance, it becomes tiresome.

Yes you're 100% right. I made a similar topic about NXT being buried with their SH** theme and everyone flamed me for it.

Randy Orton's theme just kills his FACE / HEEL HEAT.

These themes just sound something like playing a random song on your ipod after a match.

There's so many things wrong with wrestling. They are going backwards.

Every single star who became OVER AS HELL had a wicked theme. Bret - Warrior - Hogan - Stone Cold - HBK - NWO - Undertaker - ETC...

If you just watch the Brood's entrance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0q7PPu_NIg&feature=related
Even if Gangrel was a bit crap in the ring you'd still remember that character. It is such a big deal.
The best entrance in the history of professional wrestling. Suits Gangrel so well, and Edge and Christian back in the day. I don't think Gangrel was that bad in the ring, he clearly is the least talented of the three. Although his only memorable match was vs X-pac in Royal Rumble 1999, shame he lost but still a good match.

Anyone else hit the mute button when R-Truth comes out?
Worst enterance in pro wrestling history
Yeah, Truth's entrance = Fast Forward for me. His old theme was catchy for a little while, but the new one just makes me want to drive ice picks into both my ears.

Yeah, it really was. The theme, the entrance, the whole production was ace, even moreso when E&C were part of it.

I gotta agree that the entrance themes are going downhill. You could pop on Hogan's or Warriors and people who aren't fans would recognize them even today. You could play about 80% of the current themes in a few years from now, and most people won't even remember them.

And yes, Gangrel's theme was the shit, and R-Truth's is just plain shit.
