According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Samoa Joe’s work on commentary this past Monday on RAW drew “high praise” from WWE officials. They felt his interaction with Jerry Lawler was excellent.

As previously reported here on eWn, Dio Maddin is off WWE television in order to sell the “attack” angle from Brock Lesnar several weeks ago. Joe was used in the commentary role this week as he’s currently recovering from a broken thumb. He will be returning to in-ring action once his thumb heals.

It should also be noted that Jerry Lawler’s return has been well received backstage. WWE officials feel he’s been delivering better than expected and has helped Vic Joseph get the rhythm of RAW commentary down. The only thing Lawler has been told is to stay away from dated cultural references. The RAW brand is currently trying to target the more youthful demographic and push new stars.

Lawler is awful, every time Vic throws it to him to put over a young guy, he refuses.

Vic: "King tell me what's impressed you about Humberto Carrillo?"

King: "Well he has great dimples"

Vic: "The secret is out, the WWE universe has been talking about Buddy Murphy--"

King: "--Yea, but let's talk about how impressive R-Truth is at his age".

Joe was pretty good. He has quick wit and his voice is just a natural for commentary.

They need to remove King. He has the voice for it and he can have a highlight or 2 still, but for the most part he knows nothing about some of the current talent and still tries to use his awful......awful jokes.

King doesn’t work as a face. Samoa Joe can talk and is a great heel so wonder he is good on the commentary.

I thought Joe did very well. When his ring days or over I could easily see him sliding into that role and doing great at it.

King on the other hand. It was painfully obvious at times that he knew nothing about the people he was commenting on and was barely even watching what was going on in front of him..

Joe was great. I hope they keep him on commentary. Like he was having so much fun, especially when the rosters were getting into it.

I'm not usually impressed by Joe but I liked him on commentary, he was good.

He's clearly already on the road to retirement. Shame he didn't get the world title run back in August last year.

Years ago, they had the Big Slow do commentary and he was also excellent at it. His career was obviously over but they kept bringing him back for whatever when all they needed to do was plant him behind the mic. Now Samoa Joe is doing an excellent job and watch them drop the ball again.
