We noted earlier today here on the website that some independent wrestlers that were under consideration for the revival of Tough Enough and didn't make the final cut were Austin Aries, Mercedes Martinez, Joey Ryan, Brittney Savage and JD Maverick.

Another wrestler that was under consideration for the program noted that many of his peers echoed frustration after dealing with casting directors as he and others were led to believe they were going to be tapped for the show, only to never hear back again from them.

Many of the show's contestants have prior wrestling experience. Those names, however, have yet to be publicly disclosed. The only contestant announced thus far is Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih. You can click here to view 20 smokin' hot photos of Rima Fakih. Wow.

Filming is ongoing and will conclude in late March.

Also, Steve Austin is not living in the house with the contestants.

Not a big indy follower, but I've heard Aries is one of the best ROH talents. They better have some really good talent on the show, if they couldn't put Aries in it:no:

Aries is a heck of talent. Would be great in any company. But for some reason, he always looked minature. Honestly, if you see a video or picture of just him, you think 'wow, this guy is epic'. But in a match, he really does look disproportionately small. Seriously.

Surely Aries is too experienced for Tough Enough isn't he? When they had the original Tough Enough you wouldn't want an ex-WCW guy appearing on it, it should be a regular guy. I mean when they teach them bumps are we supposed to take it seriously that Aries needs to learn?

My only guess is maybe they are trying to avoid a similar mistake they made with Kaval. Maybe they dont want to bring in these indy stars and waste them with nothing for them to do. Then again, it is WWE and perhaps they just missed the boat on this one.

Yeah, Aries is tiny. The size of the soles on his boots is hilarious. I don't know how he manages to wrestle in them tbh.

As for Joey Ryan, surely he's made for WWE? I don't know why they won't book people like him and Cabana.

Mercedes Martinez might be a bit too edgy for WWE's audience. She's basically a latina skank who beats the shit out of people.

JD Maverick/Michaels has had a few near misses with WWE IIRC. He tagged with Teddy Hart vs. The Bashams on Velocity once, in a match where Doug (I think it was) started shooting on Teddy for trying to outshine the Bashams.

Aries' size has always been an issue and the main reason why I've never been able to realistically see him on WWE TV. Obviously, this guy isn't going to fail any fitness tests or not be "good enough" to make the show, so it's not about talent. It's probably quite simply about size.

I thought Tough Enough was supposed to be for those who were weren't professional wrestlers and still training. When did it turn into NXT?
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that they were only interested in people with wrestling experience, but then we have miss USA...

Dammit there goes any chance of Aries ever getting in to the WWE
I wouldn't go that far. WWE know who he is now (not that they didn't before) and that he wants a WWE contract. They simply didn't want to put him on Tough Enough.

Besides, isn't he contracted to some indie company? That may be a part of the reason, because he'd have to make up the dates he missed while in the house (and risk spoiling his elimination) which would delay his return to WWE TV if he won.
