I don't want to revive a topic that's maybe 10 pages or more into this forum, but thought it was worth creating a new one given some fairly important developments in Australia.

First, Ryback winning the Rock and Roll Wrestling Championship (Wollongong NSW-based promotion) from "Swagzilla" Sean Custom. He has finished his tour and returned to the States with the belt, meaning he'll be back to defend and help grow the brand.

Also, in a similar vein, Will Ospreay has announced his intention to help the Australian wrestling scene out at a MCW show, even teasing the possibility of moving to Australia to really commit himself.

Also, there was a lot of buzz surrounding this match- Will Ospreay vs. Robbie Eagles. Eagles has been my favourite Australian performer for a couple of years, so I'm glad to see him get this exposure.

My live exposure to indy wrestling has been and will continue to be NSW-based, but I believe MCW (Melbourne City Wrestling) has a on-demand service which I'm considering subscribing to. Any Aussies on here that attend indy shows, feel free to add your experiences, photos, videos!

I won't lie, the prospect of two international stars making an effort to better the Aussie scene has me all kinds of excited! (Never been that big a Ryback fan, but he won me over last weekend in the meet and greet and the match in Wollongong)

Just finished watching Ospreay/Eagles (yeah, I was that confident it'd be a good match that I shared without watching it first), and damn, did it live up to the hype I was reading. Amazing stuff.

Also, "Robbie's a tough cunt" is the most Aussie chant ever. :lol

Are there any good indy promotions in Sydney?
That Ospreay/Eagles match happened at PWA in Sydney. Haven't been to one of their shows live yet, but that match is obviously great, and a lot of their talent come to Wollongong for the Rock and Roll Wrestling shows. Also, Newcastle Pro Wrestling is great, with some of the same talent.

Rock and Roll Wrestling have come a long way too. When they first started roughly 3 years ago, it was a bit of a low rent gig, but Hunter Hayes has shown himself to be a good promoter and has built up the talent there nicely, and the rewards are coming in now with bigger venues and stars like Ryback. I don't know if you're Sydney based or not, but Wollongong is just a hour drive south from there, where most of the Rock and Roll shows are.

Ospreay is just another English lad trying to escape the shitty weather to Australia. Fair enough too. Just leave that creepy fucker Zack Sabre Jr. in England.

Yes! I was hoping someone with knowledge of MCW would comment on this. @Mon Joxley, what are some matches from MCW that you recommend that we can find on their VOD service? It may sway me in putting the cash down for it haha.

I agree the production for the Ospreay/Eagles match wasn't great, shitty lighting and the camera looking into straight darkness for like a minute was shocking, but the actual wrestling was outstanding, I thought.

Ospreay/Australia update, he posted this to Instagram with the message:

Just a reminder. I haven’t forgotten what you did for me when I was at my lowest. I’ll be back soon. AUS NZ

Other news:

-MCW are hosting their MCW Seven tournament tonight and tomorrow night. Trent Seven is part of the tournament, and Robbie Eagles, Mr. Juicy and Dowie Jones are some of the top local competitors. I'll provide results as they become available.

-World Series Wrestling are bringing the International Assault Tour to major cities in Australia. Tempted to go to the Sydney event, but it's actually in Penrith, which is a big pain in the ass to get to. Main event is Austin Aries vs. Ricochet.

Thank you for taking the time to do all that, really appreciate it! It's worth me signing up to the VOD service for at least a month to work through that list haha

You're welcome! Might be worth staying on board with it as they've got a huge double header tournament this weekend with Trent Seven and Matt Cross (M-Dogg being in non-tourney action vs. Jonah Rock) that will likely be uploaded in the coming weeks.

Well then...

So MCW's "November Rain" show featuring Okada and Bad Luck Fale sold out in under an hour :surprise:

News:

Austin Aries def. Ricochet in Australia to become the World Series Wrestling champion.

World Series Wrestling are touring again in March 2018, with the Briscoes, Young Bucks and Marty Scurll set to appear, along with Aries.

My local promotion Rock And Roll Wrestling, is bringing back Ryback in early 2018. I attended their Friday Night Fights show last Fri and while the show is generally for up and comers, Jack Bonza wrestled in the opening match and made it clear he would be going after Ryback, the current Rock And Roll Wrestling (UWA) Champion. I made a video for the show, check it out:

Started going to more shows with a mate of mine. We both love wrestling, always to go the WWE shows, but with how Australia is blowing up with internationals coming over, the NJPW tour and our guys getting spots in WWE and NJPW, we're making the effort to travel. Sydney is an hour and a half on the train.

Last week, we went to PWA's inaugural Black Label event at Parramatta RSL. It was billed as 18+/adults only, and while there was some swearing, there was no over the top violence, just quality wrestling.

Matty Wahlberg is a rookie to keep an eye on. Ridiculous athleticism and charisma, and he only started in April last year. He's the guy with the red cup in my video in my last post. Super fun to watch.

Mat Rogers is another to watch. One of the first guys I've seen at these shows and thought, "That's a guy Vince would like." Really big, great presence, and finished the match with a top rope Pumphandle Slam, which I had never seen before.

The show was built around Bullet Club coming to Australia, at least, Bad Luck Fale and "Mr Juicy" Gino Gambino. They wrestled Jack Bonza and Mick Moretti, and had a very comedy heavy match, with Bonza and Moretti failing to lift Fale. Post match, Gambino gets on the mic and credits Fale as being the reason NJPW are touring Australia.

Video promo for a show on the 25th of Feb... Will Ospreay returns to PWA! They sold front row tickets for that show in the intermission, we bought two and most of the front row tickets are now taken. Can't wait to see him live, it was Ospreay and his matches with Eagles that really started this indy journey for me.

Main event of PWA Black Label was Robbie Eagles vs. Caveman Ugg. My two favourite wrestlers on the Aussie scene (with Jack Bonza a close third), and they tore it up. Fantastic match, Eagles retains the PWA Championship. Shakes hands with Ugg and offers a rematch any time. A No DQ match is scheduled for 3rd of Feb. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely I'll make it, got a loaded February:

- Back to work
- 10th Feb- Travelling to Perth
- 18th Feb- NJPW Sydney
- 25th- PWA Sydney- Return of the Ospreay

On the subject of NJPW's Australian tour, Robbie Eagles, Mick Moretti and Jack Bonza were selected as local talent to join the card.

I took the short trip to Campbelltown two weeks ago for Rock N Roll Wrestling (RRW). They held their first Rock'n Rumble, won by Jack Bonza. This means that Jack Bonza will face Ryback upon his return to Australia. I spoke to the promoter, Hunter Hayes, who said the event will likely happen in April.

As I did with Friday Night Fights, I recorded the Rock'n Rumble. I'll upload the match in its entirety within the week. Showcases a great mix of talent from RRW, PWA and Newy Pro.

Would I be correct in assuming you're Wollongong based? There is a new company in the area called All-Star Wrestling and in my opinion they have a better core roster than Rock and Roll.

www.allstarwrestlingaustralia.com.au is their website. They have a show in April featuring Kingston Eclipse from New Zealand who has performed for NOAH in Japan.
