WWE had to move fans around to make the arena look full at last night’s SmackDown tapings at the Van Del Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There were between 3,500 and 4,000 fans at last night’s tapings. The Van Del Arena is usually set up for around 10,000 fans when WWE comes to town.

Nothing new.

They don't run big angles on Smackdown and/or big parts of angles on Smackdown. Why wouldn't there be low attendance? You can miss it and still not miss anything in storylines.

Smackdown always has low attendance. However, the fact that the first 2/3rd of every single Smackdown card is complete filler isn't helping things. WWE really has a lack of depth on Smackdown and people aren't going to pay to see that.

This. They can put all the top stars they want on Smackdown, but until they start continuing major storylines on Raw instead of just hyping up what will happen on the next Raw, they'll always be the B-show.

If the show doesn't seem important, and a fair portion of the night is NXT and Superstars, why bother going?

The silliest thing about this is that the wrestlers in the ring work to the hard camera side - where all the fans were moved away from to make the crowd look bigger "behind" the wrestlers. So they're playing/promo-ing to empty seats.

It's not really that bad. Their own hockey team averages like 7,000 people. It's fairly close to Detroit, so most people prob just went to Raw the night before and didn't want to spend more money to go to SD the next night too

How sad. People are already not going to shows with Sheamus as the champ. During DB's reign he was selling out arenas left and right.

^Or just end brand extension. So people won't even know who's appearing on what show, when. Notice on SD we rarely see Cena shirts and stuff from the kids, if they didn't even know he was appearing on SD, then people won't know if he'll be there or not.

Same for all the other stars.

No he wasn't.

And if Bryan was this next big break out megastar people keep saying, people who still come and see him champ or no champ.

Obviously via a worthless champion. D-Bry appeared in an awesome segment on RAW, so they got their D-Bry fix of the week. Sheamus needs to drop the title, no matter to who. D-Bry as champ would draw, though!

Haha, yes, I saw this take place in August 2010 in Fresno, CA for a Smackdown taping. They had 98% of the hard camera side of the arena tarped off, so it was funny to see the wrestlers pose/wrestle/promo for the side with practically a dozen or so people on it in the first couple of rows.

Ah, well. Vince isn't going to grow concerned so long as Smackdown continues to generate $150-$200 million in revenue for WWE every year on average.

It should be noted that WWE often has marginally more streamlined leasing deals with venues for the blue brand than Raw, which aren't that considerable but are just enough to help keep Smackdown vibrantly profitable.
