It's not like they have competition on Mondays anymore. And if the brass were concerned about slipping ratings, they would have made drastic changes years ago. If anything, they should worry about putting on a solid show for the crowds in attendance, because a dead crowd will kill a show well before a bad quarter-hour rating will. I just don't see why everyone puts such emphasis on them, especially considering most people on here disagree with what the casuals enjoy anyway. Thoughts?

They are not worried about ratings because they have their fan base in the palms of their hands. People just don't get it. If you want the product to change or at least have them try to get better you have to stop watching. When the same 4 million people tune in every week that tells any company really that they are doing a great job.

Hahaha. Stop watching, product gets better. Start watching, product gets stale and lackluster. SCIENCE

Unfortunately for TNA, Thursday also happens to be drinking night for a lot of people.

Ratings mean less then ever with the advent of DVR's and the internet. Plus, wrestling is not mainstream anymore so don't expect massive numbers ever. Not that it matters to me cause like I said in another thread the only shows that I really care about ratings on are ones I watch that might get canceled because of low ratings, Raw ain't going anywhere.

Unfortunately?

I think being drunk would be the only way people could tolerate TNA. I mean, I watch it when I'm drunk.

That's exactly my point. I don't understand why so many people still make a big deal of them.

I meant that a lot of people go out. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bar that tunes their TVs to Spike. Just sayin...

You stop watching and it tells the WWE that their direction is not working. Watching just to watch tells them that everything they do is OK.
I was agreeing with you. It's a classic Catch 22.

Of course they're not that big of a deal. The ratings goes down to a consistent 1.0 - that won't affect their business at all. USA won't drop them (or at least drop their ad revenue), merchandise sales won't be down, ticket sales won't be down, PPV buys won't be down - nothing will change - they'll continue to run as a successful business without any repurcussions of falling ratings.

Seriously, think things through before you post them.

Ratings from a fan point of view mean nothing.
But from a money and power point of view they mean everything.
If a show is popular then networks will offer more money for that product to be on their channel.
Look at Football and how much Sky pay for it. Around £2bn.
But if people stopped watching they wouldn't pay that much.

So as the ratings decrease the power of that product decreases. It's exposure decreases. It's sponsorship and advertising Funds decrease.
Which in turn means the company has less money to pay top salaries. So your top talent will leave, your managers and producers will get offered better deals elsewhere.
The ratings of a show determine its place and if it gets into a death spiral many backers would rather pull the plug then see it have a prolonged death where they make little money.
Look through history and your see countless shows more successful then wwe that have died.

In the UK it is rumoured that Sky won't be renewing the wwe contract next year. In terms of ratings WWE is at an all time low. TNA kills it in ratings and Sky recently purchased its channel knowing full well that it's the most watched thing on there.
Point being if WWE had high ratings would it make sky think about picking up TNA? It wouldn't. But they are not stupid, they take what is popular and then milk it.
So if Sky drop WWE as they have in the past (remember it went to channel 4 and sentanta) then it leaves it in a far worse financial position as nobody would be able to match what sky offer.
It would go to either virgin or bt as normal tv won't run ppv's. And very few people have bt tv or virgin.

Meaning its exposure would drop here meaning its popularity would decrease further.

So ratings mean everything. If a show is doing well then it makes more money. Having more power to bring in the best people for the jobs.

The true answer lies somewhere inbetween "Ratings don't matter at all" and the touting from "ratings marks" that say ratings are EVERYTHING.

Ratings are not EVERYTHING to the WWE anymore, but they are very important from a business standpoint to the WWE.

If you don't like the "ratings discussions" jsut stay away from the ratings threads. Actual discussions on ratings are actually decent discussions to have, the problem is a large # of posters here don;t go into those t hreads to "discuss" ratings they go in there to just bash on guys they hate or priase guys they love based on ratings, and those discussions are truly awful.
