Sheamus in the ring is pretty good, I know he's not very popular with many on these boards but I think we can all agree his promo's are painful. The worst part for me isn't that 1-800 FELLA stuff, or him smiling non-stop, but him talking about going out and drinking a pint just sounds weird. It feels like he's only mentioning it because he thinks announcing that he drinks beer might help him get over. Am I the only who that gets bugged when he says this?

Compare that to Austin, I think the difference is, Austin would actually drink them in the ring for starters. I remember a while back Sheamus did a promo with Teddy Long and he talked about drinking with him after the show... it had me thinking, who the hell would want to drink with some old guy in their 60's? Austin on the flip side would've probably stunned Teddy Long and poured the beer all over him. Anyone feel the same way?

I guess the writers just figures that it somehow should fit his character to mention beer-drinking.

Would be funnier to see the "drunken" irish-gimmick. Have him go out "drunk" and wrestle like a complete slugger, make him really brutal in the ring. And while wrestling have a beer-glass in his corner or something that during the fight he stops for some beers and then continue on. Then you can weave in stuff into his character like he gets drunker and drunker during the fight and he needs to have short matches. Or he can get a manager that tries to stop him from drinking too much etc.

Honestly if Sheamus had a promo where he came out wasted and felt up on Stephanie McMahon or something, I think the guy actually get over.

I'm surprised he doesn't say it more.

Anyone who drinks pints, likes to talk about pints.

Anyone who drinks a lot of pints, likes to talk about pints a lot.

Anyone who drinks a lot of pints, and often too, likes to talk about pints at any given opportunity.

And we call this, Alcoholism.

I don't drink myself, and I can't speak for the ones where you live, but the old people I know are HILARIOUS when they're drunk.
haha, some good points being brought up. I did have a few beers with this dude in his 60's that was a martial artist, the guy fought on some card that Chuck Norris also fought on back in the day and the guy had all sorts of funny and interesting stories. Still though, I just can't imagine drinking with the most elderly people to be that cool.

Love the ideas of giving him an alcoholic gimmick, just imagine him staggering down to the ring, cutting a slurred nonsensical promo, going up to Jerry Lawler and hugging him and telling him that he loves him and then going to the back to beat up one of the divas.

badass ******* stereotypically drinks beer, no problem

badass irishman stereotypically drinks beer, dude is annoyed

dat logic
Except Sheamus is the total opposite of a badass and tries to crowbar references to 'pints' into the majority of his promos and segments where they are completely unnecessary, even if he has to go well out of his way to do so. It's like, "I drink beer, cheer for me!", like he was dying to get that reference in any way he could.

The biggest problem with a lot of what Sheamus does is that he comes off as so scripted and forced. It's the same when he used to talk about a 'horse's arse' in every promo, the whole thing just seemed totally set up and pre-rehearsed. I know it's the writers but Sheamus could do something to make it sound more natural and less forced. ATM he comes across as a guy reciting a script that is designed to be funny and make you like him.
