AEW Struggling To Sell Tickets For Collision

I'm sure sales will pick up if they sign Punk?

Wrestling Observer:

AEW Collision will premiere on June 17 on TNT as a two-hour program. AEW President Tony Khan will announce the location of the first episode this Wednesday on Dynamite.

It was believed to be in Chicago at the United Center, but if they don’t work things out with CM Punk for him to return on the show, they will go to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW is off to a rough start with selling tickets to the Collision shows as none of them have sold out and is in a challenging situation with these being the first events of a show that is about to launch.

So much conflicting information. Aren't some saying this Daily's Place option is completely fabricated and not actually on the table at all?

If it's not a work, these slow ticket sales probably give Punk more leverage. It's going to be a seriously bad start for Collision if they have to change venues or run Chicago without Punk returning as planned.

That does make sense, given that we know very little about it at this point.

As I stated in another thread, Punk is there, I'll go to the show. I want to book my flights Wednesday night at the latest

Not surprising. Bad timeslot, bad publicity, wrong timing. You start something like this when AEW is getting 1 million plus consistenty. Not when viewership is going down.

Bad timeslot
Saturday night is a bad time to go to a live show?

The dates in place for Collision that are actually on sale were not confirmed as live Collision shows airing on television until last Wednesday. Prior to that it was just dates for their Canadian tour this summer.

Dave is reaching here.

As others have said, it's a bad TV slot, but it's basically a perfect live event slot. Literally what better time is there to go out for the evening than a Saturday night? Tickets should sell pretty well.

They should advertise Orange Cassidy for 1 hour ironman matches on each show to get the tickets sold.

I don’t think they have fans for all of these shows. WWE runs into the same issue sometimes. You can only milk the same batch of fans so many times before you start see dwindling returns.

AEW needs to take a break from Chicago.

Chicago hasn't even been officially announced yet, never mind tickets gone on sale. If Punk is announced to return that night in Chicago it'll almost certainly be at least close to a sell out.

Pretty sure up until last week these shows were advertised as house shows and not TV tapings.

What I think it does show that is this show heavily relies on CM Punk for both ratings and ticket sales.

Either way, I think Collision will end up being a bit of a disaster. Being on a Saturday is already bad enough.

This entire thing should NEVER be based around 1 dude. The guy wont be around in a year or 2. WTF excuse are people going to use then? This idiot owner needs to change his fucking product so people are excited about whats there. This is not even short term thinking, Its just bump. It shows you how little Tony cares to improve his product or how little faith he currently has in it. Yet not willing to give someone some control to try something else.

What do you base these ravings on? You use Punk to get eyeballs on your product, and then you do whatever you're going to do. It is a promotional tactic as old as promotional tactics and any promoter worth anything has done it.

There’s no Punk drama, this is all just Tony’s idea of “riveting” story telling.

My point is the current product is not driving crazed excitement. Instead of being aware of this and working on it, Tony just hires more people and nothing changes. That is not good promotional tactics.

This notion that nothing changes is ridiculous. There is no way you actually watch the show and believe that. The last few weeks have all been more structured. Not that a more structured show is going to produce CRAZED EXCITEMENT. Only stars do that. CM Punk is one.

The show has been CLEARLY, crystal clearly, different in the last two weeks in particular. Complete structural differences that anyone should be able to spot. Whether these are temporary or permanent, time will tell, but it's been more episodic in nature.

Hell, they even went backstage to OC twice after his win to set up the Blackjack Battle Royal.

The daily “AEW is really struggling even though they’re starting their second live show soon and sold 70,000 tickets to their first show abroad. But swear bro they’re in trouble” thread.
