At TripleMania XXVII, Cody participated in a post-match "puto" chant while celebrating with Psycho Clown & Cain Velasquez following their trios victory. "Puto" carries a homophobic connotation, but is regularly used by Psycho Clown following his matches. You can view a clip of Cody alongside Clown & Cain at the 58-second mark of Road to AEW All Out Episode 4.

AEW promotes itself as an all-inclusive promotion, and while he's an active wrestler, Cody is also the co-Executive Vice President of the company. OutSports reached out for comment on Cody participating in the chant and was given the following statement by an AEW spokesperson:

“Cody joined his teammates at AAA TripleMania for what he understood to be their post-match tradition in Mexico and was unaware of any negative connotations. Certainly the last thing Cody would want to do is to hurt or offend anyone, anywhere."

Pentagon Jr. also used the slur at AEW All Out during his ladder match against The Young Bucks.

Pentagon's use of the word was not addressed in the statement. AAA did not respond to Outsports' request for comment.

People need to understand that it’s not the direct translation of the meaning. “Puto” is one of the most offensive words in Spanish. It doesn’t matter what it means. It’s probably worse than “cunt.”

And y’all want to talk about “outrage culture?” Anyone criticizes AEW and you have a cry and call them trolls. Those who resist responsibility for themselves are often the easiest to offend.

There’s nothing wrong with social justice or progressive causes. Bunch of privileged babies who think others getting respect somehow hurts them.

If anything this just proves how legit they are. You know you're a big deal these days when nedia starts fake outrage about you

This is 2019. People rage and get offended about shit as small as mom and pop bakery shops that no one had ever heard of. This doesn’t prove shit.

BIG difference between inclusion and SJW. Until they start advocating for some lame-ass social cause, they're just being quietly inclusive.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. We got them talking about specifically looking for trans wrestlers, AOC having a twitter exchange with Cody etc. Can see the wokeness from a mile away.

Nobody believes that BS anymore. Those types are the first to destroy people's lives over any disagreement.

The least you can do is not lie so blatantly. People are sick of outrage culture for a reason, and it's not because you're just too loving towards everybody.

Thankfully a lot of media figures are auctlly fighting back. I get it AEW is new and needs to capture people and its fair to cater to the mass. But social justice people are far from the masses. Its just takes 1 person to be upset to affect a business. Comedians cant even do their job which is to insult us and we laugh with out fear but some are taking it back.

Most people are not wasting tine bitching about nothing. Just like us internet folks sre not most of the audience

Except they’re not talking about any of that — everybody else is. They signed one trans and one openly gay guy and never said boo about it.

Disclaimer that I've never heard the word before but, if it has a negative meaning we need to hold Cody to the same account as any other VP. If my boss shouted this in South America he would probably be fired.

Amazing.

During a game of the German national team last week the fans created a slogan asking for "Vollgas", which means Full Throttle as they expected maximum effort from the team. They had to change it into Volley, because some SJWs said the word gas carried the connotation of reminding people of the Nazi gas chambers in WW II.

Yeah amazing times we live. Never in the last 75 years has anyone every made that connection before.

ask 10 people and you will get 10 different versions of what that word means. All will say it is negative connotation, to what degree they will argue. It's a big thing in US soccer right now with all the Mexican fans chanting it during the Mexico games in the States.
