Being booked strongly alone is not enough for a reign to be good. His character just could not be taken seriously and his promos were mediocre. In almost every promo of his, he sounded like he had just won the title yesterday. There was no change in his personality or character. He was dancing around and throwing pancakes like always.
The problem with AJ's title defenses was that they refused to move on to new challengers and they thought of dragging feuds for months, which is why they needed the finishes to not be clean so they could continue the feuds. He was champ for more than an year yet the list of his opponents was so small. Ideally, he should have also feuded with Miz and Orton.
Well that's what I'm talking about, the booking. Don't get me wrong, there's no denying Kofi is terrible, but I can't say he was booked awful. He was booked to win, that's a lot more that most recent champions can say. As far as not tweaking his character, well that's a problem with WWE, they do this shit all the time. If you're gimmick is that you're a pancake throwing goofball, then you are that man and nothing changes it. Vince likes his comedy characters to stay that way, there's one problem of course - a guy like that has no business in main events. Back to the point - yes, but we've a had worse reigns in recent years. At least this time they try to make a credible champion.
This whole Kofi as champion thing baffles me, anyway. Why do they suddenly have so much FAITH in him? They never book champions this strong (except for Brock), but all of a sudden it's a good booking with constant wins and no ending to it. There's no plan for him right now, they just do filler after filler. I doubt Orton wins, there's no point. He's not a "star" that they would want to headline SD on FOX. If anybody, it could've been Reigns. But I don't think he's taking the top title from babyface. That's why it's definitely possible that Shane will take the belt in the future. As if it couldn't get worse. Part of me thinks Vince just shoves Kofi down everybody's throats, with no progress or edge to his character, so he can then later say - "see? ya'll hate him now! I listened to the fans and now you hate him, so I was always right".
