Problems with using gif in Avatar

I've been trying for a long time now to try to use a gif for an Avatar, and for what ever reason, it's not working. When I make the avatar, the gif becomes an image and just shows the very first image you see in the gif.

I have made sure the image size is the correct size, if it isn't, the site always tells me the size or remote file is too big, so the size isn't the issue unless there's something different with gifs as avatars. I save a gif that is small enough to be used as an avatar, but then when I browse for it to use it as an avatar, I put it in and it's no longer a gif.

I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. Can someone please give me some guidance in regards to how to do this properly? Like if there's something different I'm supposed to do with gifs rather than just regular images for your avatar?

Thanks.

Re: Problems with using gif in Avatar

You could always just post a request in the gif thread in the vip section. I'm sure someone there might help you

That's not exactly what I'm asking for. I'm asking why my gifs are no longer gifs once I make them my avatar.

Re: Problems with using gif in Avatar

What is the gif you are trying to upload to your avatar? As long as the gif doesn't exceed 683kb & 170x170 it should work.

The one you are looking at right now is the gif. This is the gif.

If I were to post this in the URL for my avatar, how exactly am I supposed to do so? Like what do I put?

Your problem is, that image is larger than 170x170px so when you upload it to the site it is automatically re-sized and this causes the loss of animation.

Try this one.

Huh...it worked.

So wait, all I have to do is make sure the image size is 170x170px?

Of course it worked

Yeah as long as your image is 170x170 or below & also under 683kb you're good to go.

Well see that's the thing. I've had it below 170x170 before. For what ever reason, it ended up not working. But w/e, I'll figure it out.

Re: Problems with using gif in Avatar

when you go to put a gif that's over the limit, when it resizes it it makes it just a regular picture.

ezgif .com is a good site for resizing.
