Stanley Cup Final" final " ?

I never saw the point in having the last two teams play a best of 7 for the stanley cup. If it wasnt that ice hockey seemed such an even game, 4-0 wouldnt be very interesting or exciting.

I know it would never happen, I know im british so ice hockey isnt in my culture and one game finals are, but i still think a one off final final game in a bigger neutral stadium would be a bigger event

You dont play an 82 game season only to have the Finals decided in 1 game. Anything can happen in one game of hockey. A goalie could play the best game of his life while his team gets 2 goals that bounce off their skates. The reason for a 7 gamer is to take out the fluke aspect and really try to see who the best team is.

It works for football but wouldnt for hockey and baseball.

Yeah exactly.

It would suck pretty hard if a team plays great 9 out of 10 games. But then just happend to have one of those days when they play a bad one. Anything can happen.
A one game final works for hockey tournaments and such, but never when they have placed close to 100 games in a season to be in the Stanley Cup finals. And then just lose because its one of those bad days.

It keeps it fair and imo Game 1 is just as exciting as Game 7. Each win is SO important.

Not to mention the playoff grind is what seperates hockey from other sports. Wearing the other team out through physical play is a strategic move. Just having to play 4 games total or whatever for an entire playoff would completely rid the sport of that aspect. You have to be tough physically to survive and get those 16 wins for the Cup.
