Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

People today wouldn't have complained about a slow burn to the title for austin because he was in hot well written feuds against charismatic opponents the entire time

There has been an AEWakening... have you felt it?

The mark wars have begun again

DAMN THAT TRACK IS HOT

THAT'S GOTTA BE KANE (IS BACK) (AGAIN)

Gee, I don't know, maybe because he challenged the champion. Maybe that's why people would believe it.

Enough of this fucking "This character doesn't belong as the champion" shit. NOBODY FUCKING CARES if the character isn't a traditional champion. Go tell everyone in that building who was PELTING GARBAGE AT SETH ROLLINS, booing and chanting "AEW", "restart the match" and "refund" that "Bray Wyatts character doesn't belong as the champion" and see if you don't have an angry mob running after you. The audience was crystal clear last night. Bray Wyatt is their Universal Champion and Seth Rollins is not. This was a bigger fucking debacle than the two Daniel Bryan Royal Rumble snubs.

Quote:
I don't get why everyone is so up in arms that he didn't win the title. He was protected in the match, so it's not like anyone was given a clean victory over him.
Uhh.....actually Seth Rollins WAS given a clean victory over him. The official decision is a referee stoppage, ie Seth knocked him out. Knocked out by a pussy who CRIES in the corner.

And the whole idea of "protection" is bullshit. It's a dishonest facade to try to rope people into believing Vince cares about Bray, all for the purpose of eventually putting someone else over. It's not "protection", it's a lie. Protection is WINNING. That's what protection is. If you don't want to beat somebody, you don't book the match. Period.

Quote:
If you're a fan of his and if you want him to win the title - then you should be happy he didn't win.

Quote:
Build up to the moment, give fans a reason to believe that he cares and is legitimately wanting to be champ when he goes for the title. Build up to a better moment.
WHO is going to believe that he's going to win the title after the insane lengths they went to to keep the belt OFF of him? It's impossible. There's nothing they can do to make me believe in a title journey for him after this.

There is no better moment coming. He will never be hotter than he just was, and this "give people a reason to believe he wants the title" shit is nonsense. He doesn't need a rallying cry, he's a god damn monster heel, not Sami Zayn in NXT. We're not trying to get the audience to get behind him as an underdog, that's not the point. He should be a force of destruction who just wins the belt because he CAN and holds it indefinitely until the moment comes when it's time for somebody to beat him.

Quote:
Also - i don't understand why everyone is so upset for the overbooking. Have you seen his gimmick? He's really, really weird. Booking weird matches/finishes suits his character. What did you expect him to do, come out and wrestle a legitimate 5 star technical wrestling match with Rollins, and go over clean? That's now how gimmicks like his work.
I don't care about the overbooking so I have no reason to address this, but he should look completely unbeatable. No issue with that, only with the idea of keeping the title off him. Your strongest booked character NOT being the champion is completely stupid. The champion is supposed to be the best. If somebody is CLEARLY better than your top babyface then your top babyface is a worthless champion.

Quote:
I legitimately don't understand all the outrage.
Of course you don't.

Some people will defend ANYTHING. Amazing.

Quote:
i'm not trolling and saying "bray sucks". I think he's a great character (not my cup of tea though) and very talented. If you want him as champion, there should be a good story/build to it, and we should be given reason to think his character cares about it first.
Again, go tell the fans who were rioting that "this build wasn't good enough".

OBEY YOUR FUCKING CUSTOMERS.

It’s fucking wrestling. A zombie has been a multiple time champion and one of the greatest of all time. Why kind of dumb logic is this?

WWE f’ed up last night. It was getting way over the top- if they didn’t want Bray to win then just have Bray destroy seth and the refs and the match is ruled a no contest. It’s really as simple as that. Or they should have kept Rollins far away from the Fiend until mania or something. The Fiend is the biggest gimmick the company has right now. Put the title on him. We are in an era where slow builds don’t carry as much as before. So adjust. But they can’t do that. Smh. The crowd let them know how they felt.

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

People would’ve been up in arms either way if Bray lost (which means that they should’ve NEVER booked this match THIS early in the first place), but the WAY they had this play out just made people even MORE furious.

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

"It's so cartoonish" and Kofi/New Day wasn't? WWE is probably one of the most cartoonish promotions in the world excluding maybe like, CHIKARA. It's always been the fucking king of cheese. Even with its cornyness, its honestly the best gimmick we seen in years instead of a boring shitter like Rollins, Reigns and insert generic wrestler with long black tights with no personality. Too bad he lost any credibility he could have had after Hell in a Cell last night.

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

IMO, Bray is not ready for this role, however, that's almost irrelevant. The bigger problem is that there was no reason to book this match. If you don't want a clean finish in the main event of Hell in a Cell of all PPVs, don't book a match!

Spoiler for GOAT Meeting:

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

The dynamics of winners and losers and WWE title matches means that Bray NEEDED to win for people to continue to care about him and invest in him. Because the audience knows that WWE doesn't give a shit about ANYONE who isn't holding that belt. Their storylines are disposable, their momentum is constantly interrupted. START STOP START STOP.

If you wanna debate whether CREATIVELY speaking Bray is a great champion - a charismatic horror inspired lunatic who is the hottest star on the roster - we can have that debate but who cares

From an objective standpoint of how WWE values and treats wrestlers, Bray needed to win to maintain relevance and aura

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

You're not presenting arguments against The Fiend becoming champ, you are giving reasons why he should be.The fact that he is not the typical "all my life i dreamed for this" lame character is exactly why he should have won.Anything to diverge from the deadly stale formula that's killing the product right now.

And NO, Wyatt wasn't protected.Look at Strowman.Everyone calls him the Braun Show now no matter how many f'n finishers he kicks out of.Losing it's not protecting anyone in current day WWE.
