When was the last time someone lost the first title match in a series and then won the belt in the second or 3rd? I'm legitimately curious.

But they took their time with Austin and built a very compelling story to his first title at WM14. They didn't just say "wow people like him now that he beat Bret at WM13, let's make him champ!".

Bray has yet to show fans he cares, or why he cares about being champ.

I think Seth Rollins as champ has run its course, I don't disagree. People seem over him. But this doesn't mean that Bray winning the title with no real buildup or story is a good thing to do.

If you want Bray as champ - fine, just make a good story out of it, and build up to the moment.

Right now as a fan i'm thinking if Bray wins he won't even care about it. His gimmick is too cartoonish. He needs to inset at least somewhat of realism in it and get fans to understand he cares and wants the title.

The title doesn't fit the Fiend at all. It didn't fit the Undertaker either.

People want the Fiend to win the title because they like the Fiend and they equate success in WWE with titles. Simple as that, and quite wrongheaded in my view. In other words smart marks are still marks. They don't seem to want to realize that this is a TV show and not an actual sport.

That's your opinion, but a LARGE majority of posters would not agree, and would have been here crying even harder if Kofi hadn't won. We're getting a bit off topic though..

I don't know....Roman Reigns vs Lesnar?
Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles last year also? And that was a great story/build to it too (with Bryan going heel, unexpectedly, with great story around it).

It can definitely work if done right.

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

Hes the best thing going in the industry right now..not only that but hes the most interesting character in a very long time. Why wouldnt I want him as champion?? Not putting the title on him last night was a big mistake and I hope he still wins it in the next month or something.

I cant remember the last time there was a character this interesting, he could do plenty of stuff with the championship, the possibilities are endless. He has two different personalities for fuck sake, he could be Firefly Funhouse Bray with the title in promos and defend it as The Fiend, it could be so entertaining.

They chose to hotshot him into the championship picture. They could have chosen to slow build but they didn’t. You don’t put him in a title match if your not ready to pull the trigger, that’s asinine. WWE created this mess for no reason and it backfired. When’s the last time the ENTIRE arena broke out in refund chants?

As for realism, he plays a psychotic schizophreniac. Nothing unrealistic about that gimmick. No difference between the Fiend character and the Joker character, which is about to become a massively successful movie franchise. So clearly there is a market for this kind of character.

Patiently waiting for the Attitude Era to return

OP don’t bother fans today are absolutely clueless. I can just see this board in 97, “why isn’t austin champion, he is the hottest star in the company. Vince is clueless etc.” I can also see fans on here in 2000 “why is hhh always the champion, the rock is the biggest star in the company bla bla.”

Re: Why do people think the Fiend would even make a good champion?

He should be Champion because he is, or rather was until WWE killed him the most over act in the WWE.

As far as why people think he'd be good, well if nothing else it would be impossible to be a worse World Champion than that untalented sack of pig shit thats killing the business as Universal Champion.

You can catch me, Rih, in the new La Ferrar'

You want the FUCKING WWE to tell a story and build a character Man you really have no idea how miserable this place is. The only good stories in the past decade have been totally by mistake or coincidence. Punk, Bryan and recently Kofi.

Wrestling IS cartoonish and it's at its best when it's cartoonish. Hogan was real? Austin driving trucks and beating his boss every week was realistic? The biggest legend in wrestling history is a fucking zombie for fuck's sake. I watch this show to see larger than life characters, not some nerds doing suicide dives and talking about how they grew up watching wresting.
