I did. I even posted that in the Asuka thread during my knee-jerk reaction to the name.

Man, my initial response was dumb.

The crowd doesn't care about any of the women in your examples anymore, they've all been around for over a year and the crowd won't suddenly change and get interested in them after over a year of not being interested. The whole women's division is torpedoed for 2 women now. Unless any of them have a sudden gimmick change that completely changes the dynamic of the division, none of them have the crowd with them anymore, if they ever did.

Then again you could say the same for basically the men too. Man the company is at an all time low right now. Watching recaps of RAW and Smackdown, what struck me was how disinterested the crowd seemed in EVERYTHING. I mean they were in the UK too. Usually UK crowds are hot--this week was the first time I felt the UK crowd was just as apathetic as US crowds. I wonder why these crowds still come.

This company hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. Believe me, I'm perfectly willing to slam them as I've been doing for weeks. But you look at everything that's been said by everyone and using objectiveness and a cool head, and you eventually come to the conclusion that yes, Paige is probably telling the truth.

Were you like me, agaisnt it at first?

The more I think about it the more im fine with it and think its alright. I mean, you want a tag name to represent you and your culture. Your proud about your people and where your from. Its not generic like Fire and Desire.

If there's any tag team people should have thrown a fit over its Cryme Tyme. Two black guys from the mean ghetto streets of Brooklyn portrayed as thugs and criminals. I didnt see much people throwing a fit about them back then.

Re: The Kabuki Warriors

I think it's a corny name, but I wasn't outraged. But, that is based on my own Westerner's knowledge of the word "Kabuki". I now acknowledge that perhaps Kairi and Asuka were going for something else we didn't know, because they know their own culture better than we do.

Personally I'd rather they just went full Japanese with the name without the "Warriors" bit.

Re: The Kabuki Warriors

Yeah, is a kinda lame name (and it doesn't matter if it was Asuka herself who came up with it) but come on, good tag team names like Two Cool are the exception. And does it matter that much anyway? One of the most famous and popular WWF/E teams of all time was named Edge & Christian. The only thing that should matter is their in ring chemistry and that's pretty much it.

The funny thing is, if they had named themselves an equally corny name like The Pirate Warriors, people would have loved it despite the fact that it wouldn't fit Asuka at all just because it would have Kairi's shitty gimmick all over it.

Besides, this team is all about the Es future plans for Kairi so, if they are going to demote Asuka to tag team specialist just so she can babysit and groom her replacement for the singles scene, they may as well allow her to pitch whatever crappy name she may prefer.

Re: The Kabuki Warriors

I'll admit, I overreacted because I didn't know the full origins of Kabuki, so I'll take that L!

Kabuki Girls or Kabuki Gumi would be nice sounding, Warriors just sounds generic.

Girls 100% has a much better chance for selling, especially with younger girl demographics.

It's a shame they weren't allowed to use the name they wanted.

WWE might have feared 'girls' would be deemed patronising or some nonsense. They've gotta be strong warriors, dammit.

Could also have been a money driven move. Not a lot of guys will want to wear a shirt with some cutesy name like Kabuki Girls on it. A more unisex word gives their merch (if they ever have any) a wider appeal.

Hiroshi Tanahashi/Kazuchika Okada/Minoru Suzuki/Daniel Bryan/Asuka

Samoa Joe/Tetsuya Naito/Tomohiro Ishii/Meiko Satomura

Bayley has one of the least masculine merch around and it allegedly still sells like hot pancakes. And the same applies to alexa, who's another top seller whose merch suffers from a serious testosterone deficit.
