I understand what WWE is trying to do. Trust me I get it. It's the same formula that they have used for years. When a superstar returns and makes a big impact, they keep them quiet and don't have them say much just so they can goad you into coming back and watching the following week. In their eyes, it keeps you interested in the storyline and makes for a cheap ratings grab. They did it with Ambrose's heel turn, they did it with Batista in his recent return, and they did it when Daniel Bryan turned heel. I think they might have done it with AJ Styles too during his first heel turn if I remember correctly. They were quiet at first, then spilled the beans. Same shit.
After watching Sasha's segments this morning though, I have to say that I was extremely disappointed. Again, they didn't strike when the iron was the hottest. They had Becky cut another GOAT tier promo and all I wanted was for Sasha Banks to follow that up with a scathing rebuttal, but WWE flaked like they always do. Why not do something NEW for once? Does it ALWAYS have to be the same formula for every big heel return? She should have immediately followed up the attack last week with a reality-based pipe bomb type promo that went over why she left, the women's evolution, the 4 horsewomen, NXT backstory, how she was treated, blonde favoritism, her never happening match with Trish, and how she really feels. That's what everyone wanted to see. Becky even brought new material to the table with her "making Sasha great again" promo. There's so much promo material there that they can literally talk about something new in every segment they have together for the next 3 months. There's no excuse. You can't make the argument that they'd be running through storyline material too fast. After dropping the ball last night, I am not going to care as much next week as I did this week.
This is not the way I wanted the feud to start. This is the only feud in WWE that even matters ATM. Everything else is trash besides the Roman attack storyline. There are only like 3 weeks before now and the PPV, and like always, WWE is not building the story right away. Who knows, they may not build a story at all. Maybe they just say fuck it and go the Batista/HHH route and have Sasha Banks spit all over the microphone about getting what she wants. Like I said, I see what WWE is doing, but it doesn't change the fact that they failed once again at capitalizing on the initial excitement.
