Why did the fans revolt during Rollins vs. Corbin?

Everyone has their opinions on Corbin, Lacey and Seth but I want to bring some perspective to this topic. This is not a troll thread, I just want some perspective in here. We have fans in here worship Corbin and Lacey as the saviors of wwe and people hate on Seth Rollins. So here’s what I see every week and what I saw last night.
Seth Rollins gets a decent face reaction from the fanbase.
Corbin gets go away heat
Lacey is beginning to get heel heat.
So when both guys came out, the fans were neutral and the revolt didn’t start until he announced the guest referee. So did fans revolt because of 1. Lacey as the ref, 2. Corbin in a title match or 3.storyline.
I know people are gonna come in here and hate on Becky, don’t bother she’s nuclear over with the fans as shown last night and I am not blind.
My opinion is the fans are fed up with Vince stupid story lines and they want compelling main event feuds that has nothing to do with Lacey and Corbin. Lacey and Corbin are 2 bright stars that are pushed without fan approval. They are not over as faces or even heels. People hate seth but when he beat Brock at mania the fans did not chant bullshit or stupid, they popped. I mean when fans chant bullshit, you can’t wrestle or stupid at you then it’s a major problem. The savior of wwe has yet to come and those 2 heels or Seth will not improve ratings.
Thought please?

Fans like unpredictability. The main event, once Lacey came out (which was a surprise in itself) was predictable. Once you saw Lacey and we know the Rollins/Lynch relationship, it became predictable.

Had Corbin brought out anyone other than Lacey and Charlotte... Little less predictable. Trouble is, there IS no one else.

Alexa would have been a great choice. No one would have guessed it, but .... it actually would have made sense when you put the pieces together.

Corbin/Alexa had interaction on TV months ago on a few occasions. They both (as heels) stuck up for each other when they were co "RAW GM". Now factor in Lacey should have been done with Becky. 2 straight PPV losses. And Alexa is done with Bayley, and back on RAW. Alexa needs a new feud. It all makes sense logically. But WWE has a problem with logic, and good writing.

It was a missed opportunity imho.

Rollins cultists are quick to blame Corbin for the fiasco, but keep this in mind. This is the third time in a year that fans have hijacked a poor rollins match. It happened against ziggler, ambrose, and now corbin. What do these matches have in common. Mr. Hour 3. Coincidence? I think not. :Cocky

omg that nickname!! :D

hey, mr hour 3 is at least a better name than "Becky's boyfwend :x :x "

i still think seth is good (better than any other non-roman option) but he is a weird character. why is he a mix of "pussy who uses weapons and hides behind woman" and stone cold steve austin. pick 1!

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

I'm only speculating, but based on what I had heard about this match, it seems like a bad idea to hype up the Special Guest Referee as a big surprise and then just reveal it to be someone who is already on the roster and probably featured on TV at least once a week.

I mean if it was just going to be Lacey Evans, why not just announce her as the referee from the get go or have Corbin say that the referee would be someone from the current roster and have Seth try to figure out who it is before the PPV? (TBH, maybe they did this and I just don't know because I haven't been watching).

But if they built this up and spent all this time hyping up a surprise only to have it be Lacey Evans, I would imagine that would be kind of a let down.

Yeah, I think it’s probably bc of the ref announcement. Here’s the thing tho, a lot of people are gonna harp on the revolt bc of various reasons but the performers in that match pulled it out. Around halfway through the match people started legit booing the heels (especially Lacey) and getting behind Rollins.

By the finish the crowd was really hot. Sure, the crowd tried to hijack it at the beginning but by the end they were eating out of the company’s hands. You gotta give credit to all performers involved for pulling that one out.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

In my opinion the problem was the following issue: The crowd wanted to see the main event, which for the Universal Tag Team belt between Baron and Seth, maybe with Lesnar involved.
Instead, the whole match was about Lacey (until Becky came out) and Corbin looked like Lacey`s tool, nothing else. So it was good for people who are into Lacey or at least into Becky, but for everybody else it was lame. Cannot imagine fans of Corbin or Seth really liked that match.

I'm a Corbin and Lacey fan so I enjoyed it up until the inevitable happened. Corbin did look very weak though which I didn't enjoy.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

The main reason is because the moment Lacey came out it was clear to everyone over the age of 5 what was going to happen and WWE did exactly that without any sort of twist whatsoever

When you have a predictable match and have Baron "Go Away Heat" Corbin and Seth "less Charisma than Roman Reigns" Rollins this is what happens

Stone Cold and The Rock would be called trash if they had to try to get the shit Vince is writing over

I mean if a time machine appeared on the ramp tonight and 1999 Austin and 2000 Rock walked out of it and tried to get today's shit writing over, with all the nostalgia and goodwill working for them, they'd still fail horribly

Seth is ice cold. I think fans want to like him, but he just doesn’t have it. Becky is super over with the vocal minority, but most people just sit on their hands when it comes to her. And Corbin and Lacey aren’t seen as threats at all. People come to wrestling to see stars and there aren’t any left. There will be more and more of this going forward.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

corbin always gets go away heat

that whole crowd sounded quiet apart from massive Daniel Bryan chants during his match. in person i imagine it was better but on tv i only heard big pops for becky, bit of a pop for alexa, big one for bryan and small one for seth.

The worst parts of the attitude era came out in that main event. It's more story-line than anything. It felt very paint by numbers with the heel ref.
that is a good analogy. as much as the AE is lauded for its good PPVs and tv matches, they had a tendency to have soap opera storylines or just overcomplicated stuff that doesn't improve the quality of the wrestling.
Biggest difference is you actually cared about the characters who were fully realized back then.

The crowd last night didn’t want to see dumpster fire Baron and green as goose shit Lacey in the main event of a PPV.

I am not a rollins fan, I am a Becky fan only but the reality is Corbin has been getting go away heat since he was acting raw Gm. Last night the fans hijacked the show when Lacey was announced as the guest referee but they got back into it when Becky saved the main event. Tell me what’s not true about that.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

corbin may even have been getting x pac heat before he was gm tbh. he is really just A Tall Guy™ who they feel they have to push despite him being crap.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

I think people should give Lacey more of a chance! so much negativity.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

I didn't watch the show because I had zero interest in it. My guess is because of Corbin and Lacey. I'd be upset too.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

People were just let down. The special guest referee was the primary RAW storyline going into the show and WWE pulled that bullshit with Lacey being the choice, just so they can carry on with the love bird angle that no one cares about. Especially since they weren't even interested in a Corbin/Rollins match in the first place.

Re: Why did the fans revolt last night?

Corbin pretty much always has go-away heat, and WWE has given fans little reason to care about Lacey. Plus this was a rematch that most people didn't want to see, and after all of the buildup, Lacey being the ref felt like an anti-climax.

And yeah as soon as it was her, you knew Becky was coming out.
