So i was reading about The Kliq on Wikipedia & i found a very intresting article that i'd like to share with you .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the more talked-about actions involving The Kliq took place on May 19, 1996 at Madison Square Garden. At the time, Hall and Nash were about to leave the WWF for rival WCW and this was their last contractual obligation for the WWF.At a major WWF live event, Levesque (as the villainous Helmsley) wrestled the fan favorite Scott Hall (as Razor Ramon). Later that night, Michaels, then a fan favorite, wrestled Nash (as the heel Diesel) in a steel cage match. Immediately after the match, Scott Hall entered the ring and hugged Michaels, which is not seen as a problem as both were fan favorites at the time. However, Levesque and Nash both joined the hug, despite working their matches as heels.
Paul Levesque was the sole member of The Kliq punished for the MSG incident.

Their actions, also dubbed the "Curtain Call", scandalized WWF management, who at the time wanted to maintain the illusion that the antipathy between fan favorites and villains was real and that they were not friends outside the ring, a backstage rule which was carried over from the days when wrestling territories were regionally based. The rule was in place as a means of maintaining storylines and feuds between wrestlers, which sometimes lasted for years, and could unravel in seconds if the two feuding wrestlers were associating as friends in public.WWF Chairman, Vince McMahon was reported to be initially okay with the incident, but did not expect them to take it so far.McMahon also did not expect a fan in the audience to sneak a camcorder into the event and capture the entire incident on tape, which was later procured by the WWF and aired on the October 6, 1997 episode of Raw is War by Michaels and Levesque who, in storyline, used the footage to irritate McMahon. Because Michaels was the WWF Champion at the time and was one of the promotion's biggest drawing cards, he could not be punished.[8] Hall and Nash were soon to leave for WCW, so they also escaped punishment.[9] The punishment fell solely on Levesque, who was demoted from being a championship contender to wrestling inexperienced or lesser experienced wrestlers.[11] He did, however, win the WWF Intercontinental Championship five months later. The Undertaker stated in HHH: The Game DVD that when Levesque first arrived in the WWF, he saw him as an arrogant person who only looked out for himself, but when Levesque took his punishment and did not complain, he earned his respect. This punishment turned out to have a major impact on the WWF's future. Before the "MSG Incident", Levesque had been booked into the finals of the 1996 King of the Ring tournament during the following summer, but his place - and the push that usually went with it - would instead go to Steve Austin, igniting his rise toward mainstream superstardom and helped the WWF defeat WCW in the Monday Night Wars.Levesque's punishment only delayed his rise to prominence in the business, as he would go on to win the following year's King of the Ring tournament and later went on to become a thirteen time world champion, beginning with his WWF Championship victory over Mick Foley the night after SummerSlam in 1999.

opinions ? :)

Not a interesting article everyone knows the story

I still don't see what's the big deal about the incident. Ok wow they broke kayfabe. When the entire Attitude Era and the years after were based on kayfabe I really ask myself, what made McMahon go all menstrual on The Kliq?

In that time, Pro Wrestling was still pretty much old school in terms of kayfabe. It was still a very serious thing and to break kayfabe was very disrespectful to the business. Especially to the older generation wrestlers, who saw kayfabe as a sort of code of honor type of thing. Vince McMahon proberly wasn't too bothered by it. But i'm sure there would have been a lot of WWE employees who were really pissed off and upset by the incident, and McMahon felt he had to do something at least. According to Shawn Micheals, both he and HHH had to go around to all the lockerroom and apologise for the incident.

i lvoed this moment, without it rocky wouldnt have won the ic title from hhh and austin wouldnt have won king of the ring....imagine wwe without stone cold and the rock, and im glad hhh took his punishment because of the great heel he turned out to be especially in 2000

Considering kayfabe was a huge, huge deal back then, this incident was really disrespectful, at least in my opinion.

the funny thing is .. that move did the biggest impact on steve austin's career

i remember triple h was supposed to get a BIG push in 96 .. but bcuz of this incident they reduced him to a jobber and pushed steve austin making him the king of the ring winner in 96

but here is the question :

what couldve happened if hhh wasnt a DAMN! fool and didnt join in the incident ?

Stupid move, but it's interesting to think where pro wrestling would be if this didn't happen...because then Austin's push wouldn't have happened...and his match with Jake the Snake, and the origins of Austin 3:16, would have never happened...personally I think we never would have seen the character Mr. McMahon if Austin had never gotten that push, and the attitude era probably never happens

Dumb move, but in the end it would up benefiting WWF more than anyone could have ever imagined

yeah truth

It really wasn't that big a deal.

It was a live event, as a wrestling fan during that era I had no idea that incident even took place till years later.

Plus look up the footage on youtube, the people were into it.

Everyone acts like those four guys came out and cut a 20 minute promo detailing how wrestling is fake and giving away insider termonology.

Hall came out and shook hands with HBK (both face)

Nash got up and shook hands with Shawn and Hall (last night in the company turning him face)

HHH came out and joined in (HHH was the problem as going forward he was still heel)

but again it was never going to be acknowledged on TV so who cares?

The old timers just blew it way out of proportion and the only reason Vince probably even cared was because it happened in MSG.

The center of Vince McMahon's WWE universe.

i love this moment, Curtain Call is one of greatest thing ever for WWE. without Austin 3:16 then there's no Rock who got elevated throught his fued with Austin, without AUstin 3:16 WWF could have die and don't now where they gone. HHH career is using power and playing backstage politics to get on top.
if WWF went banktupt or bad thing happen to WWF then SHawn and HHH still able go to WCW with their pal in wcw Nash/HAll who got creative power.

lol @ thinking people hadn't ever really heard about it. noobs.

but OT the kilq does whatever it wants.
