Even though I think that Priest had a good booking so far, I don't think he has built the star power necessary to be a world champion today.

His promos look forced, his charisma is lacking and his reactions are there but they definitely don't have the necessary heel heat. If you could combine Dom's heat, Finn's promo and in-ring and Priest's presence you would have the perfect up and coming heel, ready to cash in.

Not only that but his timing isn't good. If he cashes in on Drew, it's heel vs heel. If Drew holds the title until June/July it won't be as lengthy as it should be (leading to Drew vs Punk). If Roman retains, they definitely won't have him drop the title to Priest.
The obvious choice is Cody. I can see them going with the route "Cody finished the story but that last chapter lasted only a day", if Priest cashes-in soon enough, giving Cody the edge of chasing Priest and giving Priest some needed heat.

However Priest is definitely not at the level to have a lengthy title run (if the title goes from Roman to Cody to Priest we're looking at a major downgrade).

Am I the only one seeing a problem here?

Is the MITB a concept that maybe has ran its course? It peaked with Rollins and then went downhill year after year.

Priest is in a weird spot because they have a lot of guys who are more over than him right now, and in hindsight probably shouldn't have won the MITB in the first place. That being said, I think he should hold it all the way up to the actual MITB PPV, and continue teasing it but also having him get more paranoid when he realizes his time is running out. They've never actually done that before with it (to my surprise), and it would make a neat little storyline deal for him.

I like this idea. What if he fails completely due to something JD does and then eviscerates them and wins the title in an actual 1-on-1 match?

This whole Priest MITB briefcase thing feels like they have written themselves into a corner with it. They have to have him cash it in sooner or later but at this point it feels like a horrible idea to make him champion. All the while, if he cashes in and fails, his credibility is further shot. Putting the briefcase on him feels like it was a huge mistake or at the least if they were going to do it, they really should have just done it back in September or October during the dead months.

I think there's an eventual path to him winning Seth's belt, but I don't see it happening in the coming year given the right path is probably Seth -> Drew -> Punk at the moment.

If anything, I could see Balor being the one who accidently costs Priest in the end, and that's how you finally fracture Judgement Day completely. You end up with Balor/Priest as a feud and Rhea and Dom can break off and do their own thing, which they kinda should at this point.

The only weird thing is that we live in a world where a guy less charismatic than a dead rat is holding the briefcase for a world title. He's horrifically terrible.
💀💀💀

You didn't have to kill the poor guy damn.

They have put themselves in another tough spot after botching Theory’s cash in. I can’t imagine they want to do the same with Priest but he’s not at the level required.

The difference between him and Theory is that Priest actually could have had a failed attempt that would have made sense and fitted into a storyline - JD turn and screw him. That opportunity has passed now after all the teasing died down.

MITB should be retired for a while to recover. Bring back KOTR and give the winner a title shot at next the PLE.

Another idea is have an injury angle for Priest and have Dom cash-in "for him".

It will be revealed that Dom took him out and Priest returns and goes after the Judgement Day, leading to Priest vs Dom in a Puerto Rico event.

Dom's heat will skyrocket if he wins the world title like that. And he can be a great pair with Rhea as two world champs.

Using Dom's heat and the return from the "injury", Priest will probably be well off as a babyface.

If he did cash in and win, his run would be like Jinder or Swagger. Totally meaningless.

Priest hasn't been booked well. He's jobbed a lot while being mostly irrelevant, which is the booking of almost every MITB holder in history. The only thing he has done all this time is be a tag team champion and pick up wins over undercard wrestlers. The only wrestlers that were ever booked well as the MITB holder were Edge and RVD. It's been downhill ever since. I hope Priest fails the cash in. He's not world champion material, and he's also old and older than both Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins - and both of them have much more years in the WWE than Priest has. Austin Theory is 16 years younger than Damien Priest and he failed the cash in. There is a lot more potential in Theory given his age, yet they messed it up with him. I don't see why Priest should be successful when he's an inferior talent and old. The only thing Priest has over Theory is he's tall. But Triple H seems to love the Judgment Day and probably likes Priest more than Theory, so he might be successful with the cash in.

It certainly hasn't helped Priest that they focused a lot more on the tag team title thing while he has held the MITB case. Plus the fact that both top titles seem to be covered with possible new title holders. So unless they wedge him in between title changes that allows him to hold the WHC for a minute just to make the cash in successful I don't imagine a scenario where he comes out of it with any sort of success.

Priest won that case before CM Punk got there and before they started using McIntyre in this spot that he is in more. On the other end, even if Cody or Rock wasn't facing Roman at WrestleMania it never would have made sense to cash in on him. So WWE is indeed in a corner with the MITB case and I don't think that a failed cash in is a good idea after Theory's cash in on the United States title last year.

I don't know why people keep going on about this, he's clearly not winning the title. They've gone away from the gimmick in recent months, but they've already laid the groundwork indicating that when to cash in that briefcase was causing friction within their group. If I had to guess, after they lose the tag titles he'll have a failed cash-in, and it'll all lead to the split.

As far as he himself is concerned he's simply not well suited to the character they've had him playing for most of his run. Go back and watch his work on NXT, the dude is plenty charismatic, just not enough to overcome mediocre gimmicks and unremarkable booking. He should never have been turned heel, at least not the kind of one he is. He excels at playing smug and cocky, but WWE want people to plug gaps rather than to play to their strengths.

He's got until July. So far they've put it on backburner because of how much movement at the top there already is.

Dude's got charisma. But his role and character has been tempered.

Drew wins the championship as Priest attempts to cash in but isn't able to. But still holds onto the case.
Raw after WM, Drew comes out to confront Priest. Says "why all these sneak attack cash ins, why don't you cash in ahead of time"

Priest wins at Backlash, Drew gets the belt back at Money in the Bank by winning it and cashing in that night...
