Full story from Fightful:

Fightful has confirmed a major free agent’s landing spot, barring some unforeseen catastrophe.

Fightful has learned that legendary New Japan Pro Wrestling star Kazuchika Okada is headed with All Elite Wrestling after leaving NJPW. We’re told that the deal was effectively agreed to in the last couple of weeks, but we haven’t confirmed that pen has been put to paper as we’re told it is being finalized. AEW has been confident that they’d land him for the last several weeks, and even as far back as mid-January.

We haven’t heard firm plans on when Kazuchika Okada is slated for his debut as an AEW-contracted star. However, we’ve heard it’s expected to be after he finishes up his commitments with New Japan Pro Wrestling. There had already been creative ideas for Okada tossed around as of January. We’ve also heard discussion out of Las Vegas this past weekend discussing that the first half of March would be big for the company.

WWE sources that we spoke to in Las Vegas did confirm that there were talks between Okada and WWE. We’ve heard from WWE talent who noted Okada was weighing the pros and cons of heading to WWE compared to AEW. In the end, we’re told that AEW was very confident in their offer to Okada.

Good news, because he suits AEW more than WWE and it'll also allow him to return to NJPW. He's very much an in-ring storyteller and there are several versions of him they could use. One of my favourite versions is grumpy Okada who slaps around young wrestlers.

He went out of NJPW strong by beating Tanahashi earlier. He was very emotional since it marked the end of 17 years fighting under the lion mark. He used Nakamura's Landslide which caused speculation that he could be WWE-bound.

I am fascinated to see how AEW uses him. Okada and Ospreay are great fits for AEW's 'wrestling first' ethos and give the company a long list of fresh new big matches. At the same time they need to be booked well. Ospreay is the potential face of the company. Adding Mercedes Mone to the mix, AEW have been handed an opportunity here to refresh their brand and create some buzz again. These are prestige signings who carry themselves like superstars and should be presented as such.

I'd endorse a Gunther-style route for Okada where they save the World Title scene for later and instead give him a belt that feels perfect for him - the AEW International Title. Roddy beats OC, coin drops, Okada wins the belt from Roddy at Big Business and becomes that dignified, unbeatable champion like Gunther until a time comes when he moves up.

His final entrance in NJPW today, President Tanahashi was tearful.

That’s a W for both AEW and Okada.

TK is in a position where he can truly rejuvenate the product, hopefully the booking improves across the board.

We consistently need more shows like this past week’s.

I hope they dont rush him into the main event and do Okada vs Joe.

Assuming they can get most of their top stars healthy at the same time and avoid any drama/walk-outs, there's no excuse for BOTH shows not having sufficient star power and some interesting secondary feuds.

Just another guy to get lost in the shuffle then. Pitt, was kinda hoping to see him in a promotion that would do more than heatless matches with him.
I too was super excited at the prospect of seeing him exchange restholds against AJ Styles in a feud over a happy meal but unfortunately it looks as if that's fallen through.

nah sometimes I don't need a storyline behind every damn match. Sometimes I just want a good match. What I would do is have the heavyweight belt be the storyline belt and mean women's title and have like an IC title be the workers belt where it's just about the matches.

Yeah, the current WWE main event storyline is just full of sheer creative brilliance.

"I know I just won the Rumble and have an opportunity to get a rematch for the A title against the man who beat me last year at Mania but imma pass my opportunity to a 53 year old actor and take on the guy I'm 3-0 against(including one with one arm) for the B title instead thx"

Only for 6 days later after Dwayne vs Roman is "made official" to come out and say "i wuz jk guiz i rly need to finish da story at Mania now" and the company now attempts to unravel the complete and utter clusterfuck mess they created with multiple illogical pivots over the last month.

Don't get me wrong, if The Rock is on TV I'll be tuning in, but it damn sure isn't going to be for their absolute disaster of a "storyline", it's going to be because The Rock is an all time favorite of mine.
