Dave Meltzer, editor of The Wrestling Observer recently noted that an insider at WWE made an impressive $45,600 on betting the outcomes of matches prior to last month's WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

As we reported the day after the event, betting sites were considering removing WWE because of insiders like this cashing in. It is also believed that a s source leaking information which allowed betting sites to adjust their odds at the very last minute has been stopped.

Below is what Meltzer had to say on the matter:

"There was someone who gets all the WWE finishes that made a killing at SummerSlam because not enough smart money came for them to adjust the line, and also, none of the actual finishes were changed at the last minute. He did a $3.36 parlay on ten matches, all of which he got right, and won $45,600. That was a key thing where I mentioned after the show that a lot of the gambling sites were considering dropping WWE because insiders that knew could make a lot of money and that level money was ridiculous. The company that got hammered hasn’t done parlays in a long time, and won’t be doing them again. It was noted that the one guy alone may kill the landscape because companies don’t want to open themselves up for those kind of losses in what is usually considered a minor fun thing of having odds on pro wrestling matches. It also should be noted that there are WWE talents betting heavily which is where some sites recognize and switch the odds when those bets come in"

Bookies will take bets on anything if they think they can make money on it. I remember during Wrestlemania 30, I checked out the betting odds after Undertaker Vs Brock Lesnar. If I had stuck a few quid on Lesnar, I would have won big that night. Sadly I never thought about betting at the time. We only checked out the odds to see what could have been made had we put our money on Lesnar.

Surely Las Vegas takes bets on wrestling too.

Betting on pre-determined fights are a thing? It's like betting on rigged boxing matches. Fucking stupid as hell. Might as well place bets on who goes over, Jon Snow vs the Night King.
I mean why the fuck not? The results are unpredictable enough to simulate a real sport anyway. And above all, it probably takes more skill than luck to predict an outcome of WWE's matches than a real sport anyway.

Also, putting bets on Jon Snow vs Night King is stupid. We all know Jon Snow will win in the end.(Unless GRR Martin comes in at the last second and swerves us all by having the Night King eliminate all life in Westeros, which in all honesty considering his track record is a genuine possibility,)

Because of the lack of integrity. The bookers can work with the odds makers and swindle people out of a lot of money.

If the WWE talents were smart, they'd have a close, unknown friend bet for them like Mayweather did on himself at the McGregor fight. Earl Jones wouldn't raise any red flags if he's betting for Mercedes Kaester-Vernado.
I don't know why you can't directly bet for yourself to win though. There's no conflict of interest there at all, if anything it might motivate you to win even more.

1. It looks rigged in regular sports.
2. WWE outcomes are predetermined, so if they know they're losing and bet against themselves, they can at least handsomely profit off the loss.

Oh you mean from that perspective. That applies to real sports as well since athletes can throw events or matches too. Sports have rules against that so it doesn't allow that. There is nothing stopping WWE from forbidding their bookers and wrestlers to manipulate the odds like that as well. If sports can have rules against that, then there's no reason WWE can't.

How have we never heard a story like this before???

What if all the heroes die, but the night king is still defeated leaving only the "common folk" to rebuild, thus breaking the proverbial wheel?
