It's not just that Taven is having some haters on the internet, it's that nobody wants to watch this shitshow anymore
The Elite were main guys for last couple of years, people came to see them and everyone else would barely got any reaction. Once The Elite left these people also stopped coming. I see no reason to believe that they'll return if champ is someone else. RoH is going to continue crashing till they find their new level and start rebuilding from that.

And you replace Taven with whom and who you have him feuding with? RoH needs to build new draws and this is how they are building Taven. Meanwhile 3 other guys got undefeated streaks in Cobb, PCO and Rush. Cobb flopped (him getting 50/50 reaction against Taven is ridiculous), PCO and Rush are doing okay.

Like, put the title on Rush and who is he going to be defending against? At the moment they have only Taven, Rush and PCO that are somewhat viable for that top spot, but PCO is too old. Do another run with Lethal?

Bandido, Flip and Scurll have under-delivered when put in top spots. Scurll is over enough, but he is probably leaving soon.

Haskins I think could work if given more time in midcard and most importantly some wins. Whole Lifeblood thing got messed up due to Bully being stupid and Juice moving to Japan.

I'll cosign this.

Look, I'm not the biggest Matt Taven fan, far from it. But this is like when we're talking about WWE and say it's all Seth Rollins's fault or Roman Reigns's fault that business is a bit down.

Like WWE, ROH is there for years of questionable decisions. And with The Elite leaving and starting AEW, something like this was bound to happen. And just for perspective, even with The Elite still in the company last year, this is the same ROH who ran an 8,000 seat building for Death Before Dishonor last year and got what, over 1,000 people or so?

Point is, ROH already had a ceiling even with The Elite, and The Elite leaving made it even lower. So how much of a difference would it really make if someone like Bandido or Gresham were champion over Taven. Probably not much.

Wasn't that show first RoH show after All In? I remember people mocking The Elite with attendance pictures from that show, or was that another show?

Don't give me the "they can't do much more". Non WWE wrestling is bigger than ever. MLW which was litterally nowhere 1 or 2 years ago now casually sells out 2k seaters just by good booking decisions.
The ROH roster is full of guys who could get 5 stars match and guys who are just waiting to boom on the US scene.
It's not the fault of Taven of course, he's just a symptom and not the cause of the disease, but there's definitely something wrong with ROH.

Re: Hate on Matt Taven

Might as well say that since AEW are doing great then everyone can do great.

From what I heard Impact has been doing "smart" thing for a while now, yet it has resulted in nothing tangible yet. They still don't have that new TV deal, some talent leaves every couple of months and ticket sales aren't going well either:

You ain't going to turn this ship around with "good booking".

Re: Hate on Matt Taven

Well despite all the name changes, they suffer from huge brand damages and they won't recover easily, if ever. I don't think ROH is in this state yet. When the Elite left and they started signing all these promising names I really think they had a chance to change things for the better, but they didn't.

When you consider they were barely holding on to life not that long ago, IMPACT isn't doing too bad. They just have such a horrible stench of failure that its hard for people to give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. They need a real long period of good booking to get people to realize that they are worth a watch.

You probably ain't going to turn this ship around with JUST "good booking", but you're not going to be able to turn this ship around without it.

Oh they can do more, but not under this current regime, which is why this promotion even with the Elite has a ceiling. Thatís my point.

And the whole point of this thread is about Taven. And itís unfair to make it sound like this is his fault when ROH has been putting itself in this situation for years.

Re: Hate on Matt Taven

But by contrast to that, it's like the idea of what is good booking is subjective as anything else for the specific promotion. "Impact does it, but just give them a chance." ROH rolls with Taven "this is horrid, attendance is dwindling because of it, make it stop." It can't go any which way like that. The Elite leaving has put an expected strain on ROH. Nothing beyond that has changed from the promotion even within a year's time. I mean, ROH is feeling like ROH has for the past few years. They just lost their draws. Now what this appears to stem from is how some out there seem more intent to condemn ROH for that, than letting them be; pluses & minuses included. Which wouldn't surprise me, there seems to be general contempt just by the usual disagreement of not seeing who someone likes pushed more. (The Marty Scurll straw-man instantly comes to mind)

I feel that Matt Taven is among the top performers in ROH and deserves a title run. The attrition the ROH roster has had as of late allows guys like Taven to carry the torch.

Yuuup!
