Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

Just rewatched Jeff CObb vs. Mark Haskins from this past week's ROH show, and it is quite the match.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

The last thing I think of with Joe Hendry is comedy. If ROH didn't have their heels firmly set with the likes of Taven (Kingdom), Briscoes, Silas, Shane, & Bully, he could have been a good fit to do what he's been great at in Defiant & ICW. He still could be, it'll just be stiff competition next to those.

Eh, for me the #1 thing I associate with him whether in WCPW or Impact were those entrance video parodies that he did. Those were hilarious and always got a laugh out of me.

I've also seen his work as a heel mainly in WCPW in the Prestige and honestly just doesn't do much for me.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

Joe Hendry is one of my least favorite wrestlers on any scene right now. I literally like nothing about him. Please keep him away.

RoH are teasing, most likely, Cavernario for their Toronto show. Thou not sure why they can't just announce him already.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

I'll never understand the human fallacy that is the phrase "least favorite" when describing someone/something that is disliked. Contradiction. I stick with calling wrestlers I can't stand as trash.

Cavernario not getting lumped vs a CMLL guy would be nice for the novelty. Unless it is Soberano. That can always happen all over the world.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

It's hard to get excited for the upcoming Toronto show just yet, when the upcoming New York/Boston double shot the following weekend looks really good. Rush vs. Dalton, Briscoes vs. Guerillas , Jay Lethal vs Taven, Dragon Lee vs. Gresham, Lifeblood vs VE... Kingdom vs. Shelly/Lethal/Gresham. Plus the start of the top prospect tournament. It will be interesting to see if ROH brings in some fresh faces for that. Looks like the first couple ppl are from future of Honor.

I'd assume most of the Top Prospect Tournament will be from Future of Honor. I'm curious to see who would be in the tournament outside of FOH members.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

Ring of Honor “Proving Grounds: Night One”
February 6th, 2009
From the Coral Springs Gymnasium in Coral Springs, Florida
Commentators: Lenny Leonard and Dave Prazak

Spoiler for review:
Roderick Strong and Eric are prepping Bobby Dempsey for their match against Kenny King, Rhett Titus and Chasyn Rance.

Shawn Osborne vs. Brad Attitude
This was a really good opener from two people no one has ever heard of. Brad Attitude was really good but that name was unfortunate.
Winner: Brad Attitude

Sal Rinauro vs. Bison Smith
This was a vicious squash.
Winner: Bison Smith

Kenny King, Rhett Titus & Chasyn Rance w/? vs. Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens & Bobby Dempsey
So I guess towards the end of his run in Ring of Honor Bobby Dempsey left Sweet and Sour Inc. and then had a run as a serious wrestler? Okay. He was terrible and the way he moved I’m surprised he never killed anyone or himself. Kenny King and Rhett Titus were much better than I’m used to seeing them though. This was a good match.
Winners: Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens & Bobby Dempsey

Brian Danielson is backstage warming up and he’s prepared to compete tonight despite recently suffering a concussion. Really? Brian Danielson? Wrestling despite a concussion? NEVER!! That won’t come back to haunt him later in his career! No siree bob!

Austin Aries vs. Necro Butcher
This was one of those Necro Butcher matches where he wrestled more than brawled. I’m not a fan of those. Aries did a great job of making it all look good though.
Winner: Austin Aries

Tokyo Summit DVD ad.

The Age of the Fall vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn
The team of Danielson and Lynn should have called themselves “Team Indie Markout Wet Dream Joygasm Fuck WWE I’m Real”. There was a guy in the front row at this show that looked like his head was about to explode from all this excitement. It was a really good match.
Winners: Team Indie Markout Wet Dream Joygasm Fuck WWE I’m Real

Brent Albright vs. Nigel McGuinness
This was a really good match.
Winner: Nigel McGuinness

The Dark City Fight Club vs. Kevin Steen & el Generico
Another really good match.
Winners: Kevin Steen & el Generico

Driven PPV ad.

Davey Richards w/Larry Sweeney vs. Tyler Black
This match was ten years ago and Tyler Black looks exactly the same today. It was another really good match. I don’t like repeating myself so much but that’s just the way it is.
Winner: Tyler Black
_____________________________________________________________________________________
The roster at this show was really weak. Where the hell were the Briscoes, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero? And Mike Quackenbush? I’m not sure if it was just Ring of Honor at the time or the fact that they decided to not bring as many of their usual guys this far south and instead used a bunch of the FIP guys? I think it was the latter. When I stopped and remembered the show was called “Proving Grounds” it all made sense because of that a lot of the guys brought their A-games and were as good or better than I’ve ever seen them. There wasn’t s bad match on this show but there weren’t any classics either. Everything was very quickly paced and it was a solid four-star show worth your time.
