Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

I'm not very high on Cobb so I'm naturally a bit biased, but I don't feel like he is someone who can do "more". We can all shit on RoH's booking and all that, but I watched entirety of his TV champ run and he had decent matches and was super protected. Yet at no point he had anything going. Rush and PCO, in essence, have same booking going for them right now and you can feel the electricity when they perform, I don't feel that with Cobb at all. Taichi also basically carried entire feud by calling him fat pig, which I didn't like at all, but hey, Cobb could have done something to respond

And no, I don't expect him to beat Taven because I'm not sure what he could do with main title if he was unable to do anything with midcard title. But lots of people like him so he'll probably stay up there in some form.

Entire title vs title match was a bit pointless in the first place since clearly NJPW wanted Ospreay without a belt and didn't want him to lose to Taichi. So enter Cobb who was credible enough to beat Ospreay and then could lose to Taichi.

impromptu Haskins vs Taven ROH title match in Grand Rapids

****1/2

Easily Taven’s best singles match of his career. It only took a *****+ performance from Haskins to get him there. Hard to hate Taven after that match. It’s just Haskins is in a different league.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

Yeah, Taven's match against PCO from the Toronto show was already pretty good and now we had a fantastic match against Haskins. I guess I'll change my mind on Taven as a champion for now since he showed a lot of promise so far. Let's see how good his match will be on June 1st.

I wonder who is going to beat Cobb. I know he's very popular right now yet I cannot see PCO as ROH Champion. He's 51 years old and while he's not bad in the ring and doesn't have a bad gimmick he doesn't scream world champion for me. I personally hope it's going to be Rush at Final Battle this year.

I think that Taven/Lethal 60min draw and Ladder match at MSG were pretty good too. RoH is sure picking up good opponents for him, but he is pulling his weight and I'm enjoying his title run.

Well I don't share the same opinion as far as Cobb goes. Whether with guys like Hangman Page or Shane Taylor, as a guy who usually wrestled that 2nd or 3rd match on the show with the TV Title, he always brought it and had some really energetic matches. And being a dual champion across both promotions could have given him the chance to elevate his stock even more. Instead it all feels like a waste.

So I think he could have continued to make that title an important part of the show before transitioning it to someone like Taylor. At this point Taven probably holds that thing for the year, and I wouldn't be shocked at all if at Final Battle your main event is Cobb vs. Taven. But even if that happens, there's so much more you could have done with Cobb as a double champion.

His character work is still complete ass. His look, his kingdom losers, his lousy catch phrase, and calling people virgins and Melvins still makes him lame as hell. The difference is he can have good to great matches now with the right opponents.

He still needs to lose the title immediately.

Call me old fashioned but the best wrestler on the roster should be ROH Champ. That clearly isn’t Taven. He still isn’t even top half and closer to bottom 15%.

Taven as TV champion is fine, or chasing the main title. But yeah, world champion I’m not sure.

Re: Official ROH Discussion Thread

Taven should be nowhere near the ROH Title picture, much less the damn champion.
