Percy Watson Done With WWE?

Quote:
As noted, NXT Announcer Percy Watson was not at the NXT tapings earlier this month as WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix joined the team to call the action at Full Sail University. At the time it was reported Watson was still with WWE and it was unknown if this switch was permanent or not.

Earlier today, Casey Michael of Squared Circle Sirens wrote Watson had quit to seek a new career in acting.

"Dead at Percy Watson quitting NXT," Michael wrote. "He wants to do acting and not be a commentator/personality/wrestler, apparently."

It also sounds like Watson had decided to leave before Phoenix was brought in as the NXT tapings in early April were his final. Watson first joined commentary in December of 2016, before that he wrestled in NXT from 2010-2013.

No real loss. I'm not a fan of Beth though.

Re: Percy Watson Done With WWE?

His original Eddie Murphy-esque gimmick showed that he's definitely got a decent amount of charisma to hit that fine line of being dorky yet fun and charming. And unsurprisingly for a former NFL player, he's in great shape and athletic.

And yet all they could do with the dude is waste him on commentary a la D'Angelo Dinero in Impact instead of having him as a contrast to the workrate guys. Oh well, good luck to Percy from here on out.

He was terrible, I wont miss hearing him. Beth is a lot better than he ever was.

Re: Percy Watson Done With WWE?

I actually thought Percy improved A LOT through his NXT run. Better than Saxton and Otunga in my book- which isn't a high bar to clear, but it was actually noticeable that he was putting in effort to give backstory and character motivations at different times, instead of just phoning in empty one-liners.

He wasn't that good that I'll miss him terribly, but I always enjoy watching someone actually improve through the NXT system. It's one of the reasons I like Baron Corbin more than many on here. Corbin may not be quite at the elite level yet, but he's light years better than when he first came on the scene and feuded with Bull Dempsey.

Anyway, good luck to Percy. I don't know if he'll get high profile acting roles- part of the success that Rock, Batista and Cena have had in going Hollywood is that they already had some built in name power being at the top of WWE. Watson doesn't have that luxury as a commentator on WWE's third brand.

He went from all time bad level to passable, actually a hell of an improvement to be fair to him. Good luck to him anyway.

Re: Percy Watson Done With WWE?

I imagine that Percy wasn't getting paid a lot to do commentary at the NXT tapings. Plus he probably knows that there wont be room for him on the main roster any time soon. So he is looking for better opportunities and that is understandable.

All the best to him for trying something new elsewhere as a career.
