Ah, Dave. I think he is prone to hyperbole, but if he liked the main event that match and thinks it's the best WWE match ever, then good for him for liking that match. Now I don't agree with him (like at all; I hated the match), but it's his opinion, and he can rate it that high if he chooses. The rest of the show was good. Riddle vs Dream was fantastic. Dream got to show off how great of an underdog babyface he can be and Riddle showed how great he is on top. Both are sure to be big in the future, hopefully.

Which is amazing considering he's certainly below Okada, Tanahashi, Omega, Ibusihi, Ishii and Naito. Goes to show how stacked NJPW is/was.
Dude, are you really Dave's personal ratings as facts? Like you need Dave to confirm that he is good for you to say he is good. Can't you form your own opinions, or no? Honestly it just feels like you go with the majority/big opinion from guys like Meltzer and don't form your own thoughts, and this is yet another example.

I'm not taking them as facts, his ratings usually reflect what many think of matches or are in the same ball park.

It's not like I'm the only one saying it, there's discussions of it. There's merit there.

Shawn's widely considered the WWE in ring GOAT and is out on that level by the WWE. So it makes sense for his name to come up.

No, that's exactly what you're doing. You're projecting Dave's ratings as fact. Stop it.

Just because Dave says this match was 5.5* doesn't mean it was the GOAT WWE match. It gives a ball park of where it lies i.e. great-GOAT level, the reaction from fans suggests it wasn't too far off although some question whether it should have broken the scale.

Dave usually isn't too far off with his ratings. He's either spot on or deviates off the mean by 0.25-0.5.

Well it was a good takeover so it's nice to see the matches rated so highly.

Re: Meltzer's NXT Takeover New York ratings.

Pretty much agree with most of the ratings, although until I rewatch that Gargano/Cole main event, I'm not sure if I would give that near a 5 star match or not. But hey, he enjoyed it a fuckton, and if you watch how the crowd came unglued, he wasn't the only one for sure, but one of many.

Again though, it's just his opinions, as its always been.

Although in my eyes, to find not one thing redeemable about the main event at all still confuses me somewhat. Just my two cents.

Re: Meltzer's NXT Takeover New York ratings.

This is way too much for me, I'm starting to feel how NJPW fans feel about the Okada/Omega 6-star ratings and all of my ratings for the matches are around 3.5-4 stars, because I legitimately have seen every single wrestler on this card in a significantly better match in their career. Literally, every single one, I could probably name a better match that they were in than the one that they were in for the card respectively (that was rated the same or lower).

Re: Meltzer's NXT Takeover New York ratings.

He really has become like a child with ADHD in his old age. Anything that comes along by someone he likes, he instantly breaks ratings records for it. It’s all a lame gimmick at this point and I stopped caring about anything Dave said years ago

Walter Vs Dunne was MOTN and probably a solid 4 3/4, that I agree with funnily enough
